Ruben Amorim has already highlighted some key weaknesses in his new Manchester United squad.
The 39-year-old had a handful of training sessions at Manchester United last week but would have learned much more about his players from Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.
Ruben Amorim was frustrated on the sidelines as he watched his players struggle to adapt to his style of play. He conceded that it will take time and that United may have to “suffer” in the short-term.
It was not all doom and gloom, though. There were plenty of promising signs from Amorim’s first match as he begins to build a new identity with United.
After the full-time whistle, Amorim complained about United’s lack of control in the match after taking an early lead. He is working hard behind the scenes to solve that problem.
Ruben Amorim designs unique training drill for Man United
Following the match, Ruben Amorim said: “When you start a game like this, you score one goal, then you have to control the ball; you have to control the tempo of the game. We cannot do it at the moment.”
It is not the first time he has made this complaint. In an interview with club legend Gary Neville, Amorim said United give the ball away too often and don’t sprint back to regain possession. It was one of the biggest criticisms of Erik ten Hag’s side but Amorim has been working in training to rectify it.
According to The Telegraph, Amorim has been “simulating loss of possession and turnovers in training”.
When Amorim blows his whistle, attacks are cut short and United players are required to sprint back into position to defend. It was something Amorim repeatedly demanded from his players on the sidelines against Ipswich too.
The report adds that since meeting his players, Amorim feels that fitness levels need raising to cope with the Premier League’s intensity.
Man United can put Ruben Amorim work in action vs Bodo/Glimt
Next up for Amorim is a Europa League clash against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday evening, where the Red Devils will be looking for their first win in Europe this season.
A hectic fixture list is on the horizon for United so Amorim will have limited time to work with his players, but he will want to see progress on Thursday evening.
United will be strong favourites against Bodo/Glimt and will have the advantage of playing at Old Trafford.

Amorim has been very clear about what he wants to see from his players. Control, composure in possession and hard work tracking back. Once those basics are implemented he can fine-tune his 3-4-3 system.
After failing to gain control of the Ipswich game, Amorim will be keeping a close eye on how his players approach Thursday’s clash.
