Harry Maguire is attracting interest from around Europe.
The England international has rarely put a foot wrong ever since Erik ten Hag stripped him of the Manchester United captaincy role.
With some pressure lifted off Harry Maguire’s shoulders, the centre-back has performed well rather than remain a hindrance.
Maguire leads by example on the pitch as he has done this season, making 13 appearances so far. Ruben Amorim saw the benefits of starting him in United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City last weekend.
The likes of Maguire will present a healthy challenge to Leny Yoro, who arrived at the club as a teenager with high expectations in the summer.
Big questions over Harry Maguire’s future at Manchester United
Maguire, 31, still has what it takes to play at the highest level – whether that is at Old Trafford or elsewhere.
That’s essentially why United have a dilemma on their hands.
Do they sell the experienced defender or offer him a new contract? It is a credit to Maguire that this is a difficult question to answer because it wouldn’t be if he wasn’t meeting the required standards.
Maguire can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1, which is six months before his contract expires at United.
According to The Athletic, United are under pressure to find a solution, with Maguire able to talk to foreign clubs in less than a fortnight.
The report adds that United are in talks to give Maguire a new contract beyond the extra season that United have the option of adding – so long as he hasn’t agreed to join a foreign club in the meantime.
Ruben Amorim has spoken highly of Maguire, describing him as ‘perfect’ in a back-three system, which makes for an intriguing contract saga.
Four-way race for Harry Maguire
Strong performances will only lead to further interest, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that several clubs are considering the prospect of signing Maguire.
The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell claims that four clubs are weighing up Maguire as an option. They include Napoli, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and a potential return to Leicester City.
It is understood that Napoli are looking at defenders with Maguire on their radar. Antonio Conte is fond of signing Premier League players and will want a repeat of the success they’ve had with the Scott McTominay transfer.
Fenerbahce’s Jose Mourinho, who won two trophies during his stint as United manager, wanted to sign Maguire during his time at Old Trafford. They’ve already signed Fred and Sofyan Amrabat in recent transfer windows.
Ruud van Nistelrooy could also look to add Maguire to his squad at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes present an emotional pull factor and it remains to be seen if Maguire is willing to move his career away from England.
