Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has admitted he faces an uncertain future.
Ahead of Manchester United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final, the pre-match press conference was dominated by questions about Marcus Rashford.
This came after Marcus Rashford expressed in an interview 48 hours before the game that he is ready for a new challenge.
Rashford had been left out of the Manchester derby prior to this, and subsequently sent home from training with illness.
Manchester United fan banner
Manchester United supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were pictured unfurling a banner, referencing the striker’s desire to leave.
The banner said simply, ‘Excuses Ta Ra Marcus’, effectively wishing him good luck elsewhere.
It was a clear message that United fans are not going to beg the player to stay, and nor is Ruben Amorim, who explained that there is a big challenge at the club already and he needs players who are ready to buy in.
For Marcus Rashford this could be the last straw. Already looking like he is falling out of love with his time at Manchester United, seeing some of the match going fanbase turn against him will not change his mind.
Rashford has previously hit out an online fan criticism – but after 18 months of inconsistent form, those paying to watch him every week have also got their reservations too.
Manchester United fans want players to fight for the badge
There is a concern that on the pitch Marcus Rashford has lost his way, and lost his fight to put it right at Old Trafford.
In the past, United fans have hit out at players who wanted to leave or expressed doubts, going back to Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney.
Both players did end up staying put, deciding to fight for the club. But back then it was also a little easier to do so, under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson.
United fans once famously unfurled a banner telling Ferguson it was time to go in 1989. He rallied back and led the club to unprecedented success.
Ruben Amorim is beginning a new era, and he wants players who will buy in, and so do United fans. If Rashford has had enough, then it’s best for all parties to go their separate way, a sentiment Roy Keane agrees with.
