Manchester United took on Tottenham on Thursday night in the Carabao Cup quarter-final and went crashing out after a dramatic 90 minutes.
It was another drama-filled night for Manchester United, this time in a 4-3 loss to Tottenham.
All looked lost, when United were headed for a 3-0 defeat when Dom Solanke made it 3-0 in the second-half.
However, Ruben Amorim flipped the tie on its head with the introduction of both Amad Diallo and Joshua Zirkzee.
The pair capitalised on errors from Fraser Forster to reignite the game.
Spurs grabbed a fourth, but Jonny Evans scoring in the 94th minute did leave a nervy last 90 seconds.
United lost in the end 4-3, but plenty of positives from the game for Amorim.
Altay Bayindir costs United
On a night when there were some real positives for United, ultimately the goalkeeping situation let the side down.
Bayindir was at fault for two of the goals conceded as he made a mess of two situations that we might have expected to be handled easily.
United would have won 3-2 without these errors, which makes them even more frustrating.
Manchester United can take a lot from the game
Even before the game was turned around completely, United would have been feeling confident as the scoreline did not reflect the performances of either team.
But by coming from 3-0 down to make a real game of it, United showed real resilience in the game despite ultimately losing.
Amorim will have hated conceding three, but his side – particularly from the 56th minute onwards will have pleased the boss.
Ruben Amorim in-game management is elite
At 3-0 down, the game looked dead in the water, but Amorim did not give up and instead looked to change the game and that he did.
The head coach sent on Amad and Zirkzee and both grabbed goals – flipping a sure defeat on its head.
United may not have come back completely, but to make a game out of a 3-0 deficit is impressive nonetheless and bodes well.
Antony struggles again
In recent weeks, Antony has gradually been improving while deployed in the right wing-back slot.
However, he was used further forward against Spurs and looked lost on the right as he regularly lost the ball and provided virtually nothing going forward.
The Brazilian was hooked early in the second-half and we struggle to see him getting another chance as a No.10 anytime soon.
Individual errors are far too often
Once again, United were punished by individual errors when Dominic Solanke put Spurs ahead in the first-half.
Bayindir was at fault, palming a long-range effort right back into the danger zone, before being beaten at his near post.
Even for the second goal, Martinez quite sloppily just flicked the ball into danger.
In recent weeks, individual errors or set-pieces have been United’s biggest problem – which makes a huge change from under Ten Hag.
Once these issues are solved, United could be unstoppable.
