'I'm not sure' - Roy Keane drops rare defence for Man Utd star after key moment in Liverpool draw, he takes aim at another player

Roy Keane did not see eye to eye with one of his fellow Sky Sports pundits after an important moment during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

The Red Devils walked away with a point from their showdown with Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United produced a strong showing at Anfield.

Ruben Amorim watched from the Anfield dugout as United played out a 0-0 draw in the first half before the Red Devils stunned Liverpool in the second half.

Lisandro Martinez broke the deadlock after the break for United before Cody Gakpo pulled Liverpool level seven minutes later in Sunday’s thrilling contest.

Mohammed Saleh then fired the Premier League leaders into the lead after successfully converting from the spot-kick before United rallied back into the match.

Amad Diallo netted the all-important equaliser for United in the 80th minute and the Red Devils secured their first Premier League point of 2025.

Keane reacts to important Man Utd moment

Manchester United have not won a Premier League match under Ruben Amorim since their 2-1 comeback victory against Manchester City at the Etihad.

The Red Devils had lost their last four matches across all competitions ahead of Sunday’s 2-2 Premier League draw at Anfield.

Ruben Amorim’s men are now 13th in the Premier League table and United sit 13 points adrift from fourth-place Chelsea after 20 matches played.

However, United were unfortunate not to snatch all three points against Liverpool after a dramatic moment towards the end of the Premier League match.

Bruno Fernandes played through Joshua Zirkzee on the right side of the box and the United summer signing squared the ball to Harry Maguire in the centre.

An unmarked Harry Maguire blazed his effort over the Liverpool crossbar in injury time and United had to settle for a draw after the crucial miss.

When asked if Joshua Zirkzee should have shot instead of passing, Roy Keane said on Sky Sports: “I’m not sure. You look at the angle…

“Listen, his confidence wouldn’t be sky-high after getting taken off the other night.

“Daniel [Sturridge] has been saying he could have given him a better pass… listen, know your players.”

Daniel Sturridge, on the other hand, disagreed with Keane’s assessment and claimed that Zirkzee ‘bobbled’ his pass to United defender Maguire in the situation.

“Just don’t bobble it into him,” he said in response to Keane.

“You’ve got all the time in the world to pull the ball back. He’s a Premier League footballer playing for Manchester United…

“I’m not expecting a bobble into me if you’re in that position. It’s a three-yard pass.”

Keane on Zirkzee and Maguire moment

Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench late in the second half and replaced striker Rasmus Hojlund, who struggled to make an impact against Liverpool.

The 23-year-old Dutch forward had a nightmare performance in United’s last 2024 match against Newcastle and was hooked off in the first half at Old Trafford.

Zirkzee, who has been met with heavy criticism since his move to United in 2024, went straight down the tunnel after he was subbed off before later re-emerging.

Keane argued the Netherlands and United striker was not at fault and instead put the blame on Harry Maguire for failing to even hit the target.

“But you’re passing to a Premier League footballer, an England international player,” he said.

“He’s not going to give you the perfect pass. Expect a bobble into you. Obviously, it’s Harry Maguire…

“It’s about knowing your players. He’s not gonna zip it into Maguire, is he? You’ve got to hit the target, Harry! No problem.”
