Summer signing Leny Yoro produced a moment of magic for Manchester United against Liverpool.
The Red Devils upset the odds to draw 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. After the full-time whistle, it was Ruben Amorim disappointed with the draw because Manchester United came so close to winning it.
Lisandro Martinez was back to his best and the Argentine opened the scoring for United with a thumping effort in the second half. Amad Diallo then drew United back level with a goal in the 80th minute.
Amorim was optimistic about United’s chances on Sunday – despite an overwhelming sense of dread from the fanbase – and the confident display that followed proved why the Portuguese was positive.
Moments after Amad’s equaliser, Ruben Amorim looked to the bench and brought on £52m summer signing Leny Yoro in place of Matthijs de Ligt. It turned out to be a wonderful decision.

Leny Yoro’s ‘unbelievable’ last-ditch tackle vs Liverpool
Leny Yoro was introduced with the match at 2-2 and both teams piling players forward looking for a winner. He was thrown into the deep end but did not sink.
In the 89th minute, Liverpool burst forward but their dangerous attack was stopped by Leny Yoro’s brilliant tackle on Darwin Nunez inside the box.
Had he timed it wrong, Yoro would have conceded a penalty and handed Liverpool a huge chance to win the clash, but his challenge was inch-perfect. It was a moment that marked his true introduction to the Premier League.
Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, pundit Shay Given was full of praise for Yoro after he covered the entirety of the pitch before making his challenge.
Given said: “Yoro came on with 10 minutes to go, he swapped with De Ligt. Look at this for desire from the young man, look at this for a sprint.
“I know he’s only just come on, he’s going to be fresh. But at the same time, his timing is absolutely spot on. It’s an unbelievable tackle.”
Ruben Amorim is a big admirer of Leny Yoro
Yoro endured a tough start to life in Manchester after suffering an injury during pre-season that ruled him out for the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
Since returning, he has been handled brilliantly by Amorim, and Yoro looks well-suited to his 3-4-3 formation.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Amorim and his staff are “very happy” with Yoro and he is considered one of the few “untouchables” in the United squad.
It is easy to see why Amorim is such a big fan. Yoro covered the entire pitch on Sunday to recover and challenge Nunez in the box. That kind of energy and tracking back is exactly what Amorim has been asking for.
Amorim wants United to “run like mad dogs” and Yoro did just that after coming off the bench at Anfield.
After another impressive performance, Yoro will be knocking on the door to start for United against Arsenal this Sunday.
