Wes Brown has made his stance clear on Marcus Rashford’s future amid reports he could leave Manchester United.
Marcus Rashford is the source of speculation ever since he revealed he is ready for “a new challenge” after being dropped from the Manchester United squad for the Manchester derby.
The 27-year-old was axed from the following three matchday squads by Ruben Amorim before returning to the bench for United’s 2-0 defeat by Newcastle on Monday night.
The Athletic claim Amorim was unhappy after hearing that Rashford was out in Manchester on the night of Friday, November 29, ahead of United’s 4-0 win over Everton. Those close to Rashford have reportedly denied that is the case, but Amorim has made it clear he doesn’t want his players going out to bars ahead of matches.
Reports also suggest United will listen to offers for Rashford and an exchange deal involving Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has been tipped by several media outlets.
Wes Brown offers staunch Marcus Rashford defence
Like Rashford, Wes Brown played at Fletcher Moss Rangers before joining United’s established academy.
Brown has defended Rashford, who is facing lots of criticism, because he believes he gets different treatment to other professional footballers.
“Everything he does is so highly publicised; these things happen at all clubs, but people care more because he is a local boy and is always in the limelight,” Brown told The Sports Daily.
With “a few changes,” Brown believes that Rashford can work his way back into Amorim’s starting line-up.
Rashford won’t be available when United take on Liverpool in the Premier League due to illness, as confirmed by Amorim on Friday. He will be a loss after scoring seven goals against the Merseyside outfit in previous fixtures.
Ruben Amorim needs Marcus Rashford
After losing the last four matches across all competitions, Brown believes United are missing Rashford.
The Reds failed to score in three of those matches and Rashford has been scoring the odd goal this season – but, still, nowhere near enough.

Brown said: “I think the main thing for Marcus is just to get his head down and regardless of what happens in the future, get back to playing at his best.”
He added: “United are missing his ability and his experience, these things happen in football and hopefully he and the manager can work things out together.”
It’s up to Rashford to make amends and get back into the United first-team.
Amorim has sent clear messages to the under-firing forward that he must want to face the challenge that awaits him at Old Trafford.
Up until this point, the United star hasn’t shown enough commitment to the cause and that is why he has not been in the team.
