Ruben Amorim is staying positive despite Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
Manchester United’s three-game winning streak came to an abrupt end at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils were looking to win back-to-back Premier League games for the first time this season but once again fell short. It is now five home defeats in the last six in the league.
Ruben Amorim experimented with Kobbie Mainoo up-front after his impressive performance at No.10 against FCSB. However, United continued to lack threat and Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee were unable to change that when they came on as second-half substitutes.
United have now slumped back down to 13th in the Premier League table, but Amorim wasn’t completely deflated by his side’s performance.
Ruben Amorim highlights positives against Crystal Palace
United started brightly against Palace with Mainoo hitting the post in the opening few minutes.
Alejandro Garnacho and Amad created a handful of chances and Bruno Fernandes came close to scoring in the second half, but ultimately United were made to pay for missing their chances.
After the full-time whistle, Amorim picked out three positives from his side’s performance.
“It was hard on us, the result. We improved some things from the last games,” Amorim said, as quoted by BBC Sport.
“We improved the better connections, we had more possession and the players created situations, but we suffered two goals that we can avoid.
Amorim has been urging United to have more control in games and his side had 67% possession against Palace. However, it didn’t bring the result he wanted.
Ruben Amorim sent striker message to Ineos
Amorim raised eyebrows with his team selection against Palace when he started without a natural striker.
Hojlund has been struggling for form recently and Amorim has admitted that he views Zirkzee as an attacking midfielder rather than a striker.
There are clear signs of progress under Amorim, but points are being dropped because the current squad can’t convert their chances.

A new striker is needed, and United are in talks over Mathys Tel ahead of a potential deadline day loan move.
United want a buy option in the Tel deal, but as far as Amorim is concerned he will want reinforcements to arrive as soon as possible.
