Dimitar Berbatov praises Ruben Amorim for doing something at Man Utd many have criticised him for, ‘Credit to him…’

The first five months of Ruben Amorim at Manchester United have fiercely divided opinions but count Dimitar Berbatov firmly in the backer camp with his latest endorsement.

Ruben Amorim has come under fire for a lot of his decisions at Man Utd in a short period of time because he hasn’t been afraid to make them.

From sidelining Marcus Rashford completely to players like Antony flourishing after leaving the club, the Man Utd manager has had to deal with a lot of narratives.

Amidst all the noise, Dimitar Berbatov has backed him for doing the one thing that has directed the most criticism towards him.

Dimitar Berbatov on Ruben Amorim

Amorim is no stranger to locking horns with former United players, be it reminding Wayne Rooney of his managerial pedigree or disagreeing with Roy Keane over Bruno Fernandes.

Then there’s Paul Scholes, who seems to unload a rant on Amorim on a weekly basis, from his tactical structure to the way he warms up the team!

The single most criticised thing about the manager has been his insistence on using the back-three system regardless of the outside noise.

That has been perceived as inflexibility and stubbornness among many, like Alan Smith, but Berbatov has praised him for doing exactly that.

He said: “It’s up and down but hopefully, they can finish the season on a strong note and then start the next one. At the moment he’s sticking with the system that he believes will bring success to Man Utd.

“That is a credit to him because it shows his principles.”

Ruben Amorim’s methods are starting to bear fruit

Amorim has already given away the fact that he knows what’s being said and written about him, especially from ex-players.

Therefore, he’s likely to feel vindicated upon listening to Berbatov’s comments because they come at a time when his methods are starting to bear fruit.

United played some of their best football under Amorim in the fixtures leading up to the international break, with consistent, front-footed attacking football combined with defensive solidity.

The players are getting used to their roles and positions, the manager has become increasingly familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of his players, and the tactical familiarity is ever-increasing.

Ultimately, the conviction in his methods has started to bear fruit and the final vindication, if and when it comes, will be extremely sweet for him.

Berbatov will be standing right next to him on that day.
