Reports: Matheus Cunha’s potential wages at Man Utd emerge, Wolves take firm stance on release clause payment

Manchester United are seeking a host of attacking additions this summer with Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Matheus Cunha top of the list.

The Premier League season is over and Manchester United must reflect on a disappointing campaign.

United beat Aston Villa 2-0 on Sunday afternoon, ending the season with a victory at Old Trafford.

The table still doesn’t make for good reading; United finished 15th in the Premier League, scoring just 44 goals in 38 games.

That just isn’t good enough for United and Ruben Amorim must bring in new attacking talent despite a limited budget this summer.

Alejandro Garnacho has been told to leave United and Inter Milan are eyeing Rasmus Hojlund, so we could see big changes in attack.

Manchester United strike Matheus Cunha agreement

We could see United sign three attackers this summer; two number 10s and a centre forward for Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Matheus Cunha has become United’s top target as a number 10, having dazzled for Wolverhampton Wanderers this season.

United are closing in on signing Cunha, but the Brazilian’s move hasn’t been entirely straightforward.

The Athletic report that United’s initial approach to pay Cunha’s release clause was snubbed by Wolves.

United wanted to pay Cunha’s £62.5million clause over five years, spreading the cost to just £12.5million per year.

The terms in Cunha’s contract state that the release clause must be paid within two years – either in one go or in two £31.25million payments.

Wolves were refusing to budge, but David Ornstein now claims that United have struck a deal to pay the fee over the years.

United will therefore pay around £20.8million each year for Cunha, with the forward now given permission to finalise his move.

Matheus Cunha wages at Manchester United

Cunha hit 15 goals and six assists in 33 Premier League games this past season, emerging as one of the Premier League’s top attackers.

United are now moving in to sign Cunha, and are planning to give him a hefty pay rise at Old Trafford.

The Telegraph claim that Cunha will earn around £200,000-a-week in wages at United – an increase of around £80,000-a-week from his Wolves deal.

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira is understood to have accepted Cunha is on his way out, and a deal could be completed this week with the release clause agreement now in place.
