Manchester United have the opportunity to sign one of their former transfer targets for free this summer.
Ineos have already kick-started the summer rebuild at Manchester United by confirming the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
Up next, United have bid for Bryan Mbeumo with the Brentford star closing in on becoming the second major signing of the window.
The top priority after that will be signing a new striker with Ruben Amorim keen to reunite with Viktor Gyokeres.
One of United’s former striker targets is now set to become a free agent but he doesn’t appear to be on Ineos’ radar.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer considered £50m Premier League striker in 2020
Rewind to 2020 and Odion Ighalo was United’s main striker. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was scouring the market for a new long-term centre-forward and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin emerged as an option.
United were linked with Calvert-Lewin for £50m, but ultimately United walked away from the deal considering his price tag too high.
Five years later, the now 28-year-old striker is set to begin a new chapter this summer. As per The Times, Calvert-Lewin is set to become a free agent after talks with Everton over a new deal stalled.
After the takeover at Everton, there is set to be a big overhaul of David Moyes’ squad and Calvert-Lewin is one of several stars set to leave.
Calvert-Lewin will look to remain in the Premier League, but a move to Old Trafford does not appear to be on the cards.
Man United striker search in 2025
United have several strikers that are being considered by Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell, but reigniting interest in Calvert-Lewin appears very unlikely.
With Ineos missing out on Liam Delap to Chelsea, it now seems that Gyokeres is United’s top striker target.
Reports suggest Gyokeres is open to joining United even though the Red Devils missed out on European football in 2025/26.
If that falls through, United have been linked to Samu Aghehowa or could move for Victor Osimhen after his talks with Saudi Arabia stalled.
With Cunha confirmed and Mbeumo likely to arrive, United have already spent most of their summer budget and sales will be required to raise funds.
Therefore, the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho may have to be moved on before Ineos can finalise a striker signing.
