Ryan Giggs saw both the highs and the lows for his assessment on two key Manchester United players who are part of Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad.
The Red Devils endured a chaotic season at Old Trafford in the 2024-25 campaign, with Erik ten Hag sacked as Manchester United manager last October.
Erik ten Hag oversaw a woeful start to the last Premier League season and the former Ajax manager’s dismissal paved the way for the arrival of Ruben Amorim.
Amorim became the sixth permanent United manager in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era at Old Trafford after he left his role at Sporting CP last November.
However, the 40-year-old United manager was unable to lift the Red Devils’ form in the Premier League and the club limped to a 15th-place finish last season.
United suffered their worst finish in the Premier League era and Amorim now faces a major task ahead of him in restoring United’s place in English – and world – football.

Ryan Giggs’ assessment of Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho paints an interesting picture for Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim
Ruben Amorim was left to contend with injuries to his Manchester United first-team squad last season and the Red Devils players had to adapt to his tactical system.
The former Sporting CP head coach came so close to ending the 2024-25 season with his first piece of major silverware as United manager at Old Trafford.
However, Amorim was forced to watch on as United fell to a 1-0 loss to Tottenham in Bilbao in the 2025 Europa League final at the San Mames Stadium in May.
Amad Diallo was one of the standout performers at Old Trafford last season and the Ivorian forward established himself as a key player for United manager Amorim.
The Ivory Coast winger had struggled to regularly feature under Erik ten Hag, while Alejandro Garnacho was ahead of Amad in the pecking order for the Dutchman.
Giggs touched on Alejandro Garnacho and Amad back in 2024 and suggested that the two players could “raise the standards” at Old Trafford for the 2024-25 season.
“Garnacho [and] Diallo should raise the standards of the likes of Marcus [Rashford], Antony, [Jadon] Sancho,” he told the Webby & O’Neill YouTube channel last August.
“To get in this team, I’ve got to be better than the players in front of me [is what they will be thinking].”
Ryan Giggs’ verdict on Man Utd winger Alejandro Garnacho shows why he was left ‘exposed’ under Ruben Amorim
Alejandro Garnacho’s future remains uncertain at United after his relationship with Amorim fractured towards the tail end of the 2024-25 Premier League season.
The 20-year-old Spain-born attacker made critical comments about Amorim’s decision to drop him for United’s 1-0 Europa League final defeat to Spurs.
Amorim reportedly told Garnacho to look for a new club this summer and the Argentina winger has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
Giggs admitted last August that he wanted to see “progression” from United players in the 2024-25 season and Garnacho “improving” at the Red Devils.
Garnacho managed to net 11 times and picked up 10 assists in 58 matches across all competitions last season, but that ‘improvement’ was lacking with his off-field ability.
Amad Diallo came into his own with his ability on the pitch and his attitude off it, while Garnacho’s off-pitch activities only created a bigger divide with Amorim.
