Manchester United are in the market for a new midfielder this summer, but one impressive Club World Cup star can be crossed off the list.
Manchester United’s third signing of the summer transfer window finally appears to be close.
Bryan Mbeumo’s move to Old Trafford is finally in the pipeline with formalities now being concluded.
Matheus Cunha joined United earlier this summer, and Diego Leon completed his move to Old Trafford from Cerro Porteno.
United’s next moves will depend on outgoings, but Ruben Amorim will surely look to add another midfielder to his ranks.
Manuel Ugarte has yet to convince many fans, and Christian Eriksen has left United this summer, so another midfield option should be on the radar.

Manchester United miss out on signing Richard Rios
United had scouted one Club World Cup star for a potential move to Old Trafford.
Palmeiras star Richard Rios was on United’s radar, having yet again caught the eye during a summer tournament.
Last year, Rios dazzled for Colombia at Copa America, and United were interested back then.
Rios impressed again in the United States this summer and has found himself at the centre of major transfer interest.
Reports in Italy just days ago suggested that United were looking to hijack Roma’s move for Rios as the Italian side haggled over a deal.
It now turns out that both United and Roma have missed out, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that a deal with Benfica is now in place.
Romano claims that Benfica have agreed terms with Palmeiras and Rios has given the move the green light.
Rios is now set to travel to Lisbon for a medical, with Benfica paying his transfer fee in three instalments – something United have been doing with incoming signings this summer.
United should keep tabs on Rios in Portugal
South America to Portugal tends to be a common transfer route, and is seen as an ideal move in terms of an adjustment to European football.
Rios is now making that move and will be looking to shine with his first taste of European football.
It’s one thing to excel in South America and then in two tournaments held in the United States, but playing European football week in and week out will be a big test.
United have seemingly been impressed with Rios over the last two summers, and must continue to keep tabs on him after his move to Benfica.
If Rios proves himself with Benfica, United may be even more convinced by his ability to make an impact in the Premier League.
Benfica would almost certainly demand a huge profit if they end up selling Rios down the line, but United would be wise to keep tabs on his situation in the coming years.
