Man Utd hold talks with Derby County over Charlie Hardy, England U-16 goalkeeper is highly sought-after

Manchester United are looking to add to their exciting academy set-up this summer.

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became a co-owner at Manchester United, Ineos have put an emphasis on signing young talent.

Gone are the days when United would spend big on big-name players who were past their best. The likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Radamel Falcao and even Casemiro.

These players often cost a fortune one way or another – be it with transfer fees or the wages alone – and it comes back to hurt the club, which hasn’t won a Premier League title in over a decade.

United must ensure they sign the best players who then go on to enjoy their prime years at Old Trafford. That was achieved with Bruno Fernandes when the Portugal star joined United from Sporting CP in 2020.

It is another big summer for United, especially with Ruben Amorim desperate to improve results after losing the Europa League final and finishing 15th in the Premier League.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves to try and address the problems in front of goal. The Brazilian scored 17 goals in the Premier League last season.

Man Utd hold talks with Derby County over Charlie Hardy

Most United fans are on the lookout for first-team additions after welcoming Cunha to the club.

Diego Leon is on his way to Manchester to complete a move that was agreed months ago, which will see him become a United player.

Meanwhile, Ineos have a plan to persuade Brentford to accept a deal for Bryan Mbeumo after failing with two bids.

Football director Jason Wilcox is also busy trying to find new talent for United’s Academy to ensure they continue to produce the best players for the first team, such as Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

According to United Insider on X, SullyTalkz, United have held talks with Derby County for England U16 international goalkeeper Charlie Hardy.

It is understood that several English teams are interested, but United feel as though they are leading the race for Hardy’s signature.

Hardy being highly sought after at a young age means United are trying to attract the best young players in England. That’s what they did with Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi.

It would be great to see United add more talent to the first-team and academy this summer.

Two goalkeepers played for Man Utd and Derby

Although Hardy hasn’t represented Derby County at first-team level, it is worth noting that just two goalkeepers have played for the Rams as well as United in the past.

They include Roy Carroll, who spent four seasons at Old Trafford, just like Lee Grant.
