Report: Serie A club eye audacious move for £36m Man Utd player as Red Devils target their star midfielder

Manchester United are looking to secure attacking signings this summer, but Ruben Amorim needs some players to move on as well.

Manchester United simply didn’t score enough goals last season, and Ruben Amorim wants to change that ahead of his first full Premier League campaign.

Matheus Cunha has joined United from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and more signings are required in the final third.

Bryan Mbeumo is United’s top target, but United also need to sell unwanted players from Amorim’s attacking ranks.

Alejandro Garnacho has been told to leave United, and the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are available.

Progress on their exits has been slow, and United may actually receive interest in a forward Amorim doesn’t want to lose.

Atalanta show interest in Joshua Zirkzee

Tutto Atalanta now report that Atalanta are interested in bringing United forward Joshua Zirkzee back to Italy.

United signed Zirkzee from Bologna for £36million last summer, and the Dutchman endured a testing start to his Old Trafford career.

Zirkzee was, unfortunately, jeered off the pitch against Newcastle United in December, but showed fantastic mental resolve to turn his campaign around.

The Dutchman was impressive as a number 10 under Amorim and showed the potential to become an important player.

Atalanta are now interested in Zirkzee, with star striker Mateo Retegui nearing a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah.

It’s stated that a move for Zirkzee is ‘complex, but far from impossible’ as relations between Atalanta and United are ‘excellent’.

United have previously paid considerable money to sign Amad and Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta, and the Serie A side are now eyeing a loan-to-buy deal for Zirkzee.

United are seeking funds right now, so allowing Zirkzee to leave on loan just doesn’t seem likely.

We would like to see Zirkzee stay at Old Trafford and kick on in his second season, especially if a loan-to-buy is the only offer on the table.

Manchester United eyeing Atalanta star

United would almost certainly rather sell a raft of other attackers before allowing Zirkzee to go, possibly even including former Atalanta man Hojlund.

One factor to consider is that United are interested in Atalanta’s Ederson, with the Brazilian midfielder linked with a move to Old Trafford for many months now.

United are thought to have asked about Ederson of late, though the Atalanta star won’t come cheap this summer.

There may be some temptation to pull off an exchange, with Ederson heading to United and Zirkzee moving in the opposite direction.

We would still rather keep Zirkzee, but United’s need to wheel and deal this summer means few players can be considered ‘safe’ from being moved on to help improve Amorim’s squad.
