Andre Onana’s first words after arriving to seal Trabzonspor move, he has been left stunned by the welcome

Andre Onana has arrived in Turkey to seal his transfer to Trabzonspor.

After two full seasons at Manchester United, Andre Onana is leaving on loan to sign with Trabzonspor.

Onana is actually getting a wage increase with the loan move, which takes some of the pain away from his very public snub at Old Trafford. The move has been confirmed by United.

The goalkeeper had been moved down to third choice behind Senne Lammens and Altay Bayindir, an assessment he disagreed with. Onana felt like he was being made a scapegoat at United, amid a widespread desire for change.

Onana given hero’s welcome in Turkey

Andre Onana spent the past few days playing for Cameroon, and had an unhappy recent result against Cape Verde. The 1-0 loss was damaging in their efforts to reach the 2026 World Cup.

The move to Turkey has put a big smile back on Onana’s face, with the goalkeeper given a rapturous welcome by Trabzonspor fans.

Speaking to local outlet 61 Saat, Onana said: “I am very happy. I can say that I am very happy. I am starting a new project, a new adventure for me, I am very happy to be here.

“This is a feeling that makes me so happy. I’ve never felt so much love from people around me.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to be made to feel at home from the very first moment. I want to start working as soon as possible and reciprocate that love by making them happy on the field.”

Onana wants to make immediate impact

Trabzonspor face Fenerbahce this weekend, where Onana could take on former Manchester United midfielder Fred.

After an error-strewn spell in Manchester, Onana could do with a total reset, and he will want to play as many games as possible.

He was benched for the three opening games of the Premier League season, making his only appearance in a disastrous game against Grimsby.

Speaking about a potential debut, Onana said: “I’m always ready. Every player wants to play and take part in these kinds of matches. Of course, we’ll be playing against an important and strong opponent. But we’re also aware of our strength.”
