Paul Merson cannot overlook ‘main problem’ in Man Utd vs Chelsea prediction involving two stars, ‘can’t see anything’…

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has admitted that he is a “bit lost” on one aspect ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Red Devils are currently 14th in the Premier League table under Ruben Amorim after Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad last Sunday.

City were far from their best against United in the first Manchester derby of the 2025-26 season, but Pep Guardiola’s men returned to winning ways on the day.

Pep Guardiola’s side climbed to eighth place in the Premier League table after their 3-0 win, while United manager Ruben Amorim was left with another major setback.

The Red Devils have won only one Premier League match from their first four league fixtures of the season, with United beating Burnley 3-2 at Old Trafford in August.

Paul Merson drops fresh verdict on Ruben Amorim and Man Utd ahead of the Premier League match against Chelsea

Manchester United face another tough test on the weekend against Chelsea and Ruben Amorim has already come under pressure over the Red Devils’ results.

Speaking in his column for Sportskeeda, Paul Merson admitted that the Red Devils look lost trying to play Amorim’s tactical system for United “every week.”

“I’m a bit lost with Manchester United if I’m being honest,” Merson said.

“I don’t see where they are going. Ruben Amorim plays the same system every week.

“When you play that formation, your wing-backs have to be the best players in the team and that’s not the case at United!”

The 57-year-old pundit singled out Napoli summer signing Rasmus Hojlund as one example of a player who has already made an impact away from United this season.

“Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund has already scored after joining Napoli on loan,” he continued.

“The pressure at Manchester United is immense, and with all due to [sic] respect, these players are going to a lesser league and scoring goals.

“So, part of the problem is finding players who can feed off that pressure.”

Paul Merson uses Rasmus Hojlund to make one major Benjamin Sesko point amid his Man Utd and Chelsea prediction

Rasmus Hojlund signed for Napoli in the summer on loan and the 22-year-old United star netted on his debut for the defending Serie A champions Fiorentina last week.

Merson believes that summer signing Benjamin Sesko is now facing the same problem that Hojlund experienced at United because of the lack of service on the pitch.

“The other main problem is the lack of service for strikers at United,” he added.

“Erling Haaland will never score 60 goals for Rochdale! It’s always about the service with these type of strikers.

“Hojlund never got that Old Trafford and now he’s playing with Kevin De Bruyne and Scott McTominay.”

Merson continued: “If you are that type of a striker, you are only as good as the players who serve you. How is Benjamin Sesko supposed to score when he isn’t getting the service?

“If Chelsea match Manchester United’s system, Amorim’s men will get destroyed. I can’t see anything but a win for the visitors at Old Trafford.”

Merson has backed Chelsea to walk away with all three Premier League points at Old Trafford and predicted the Blues to beat United 3-1 on Saturday evening.
