Harry Maguire takes the headlines but 100 per cent Man Utd star was real MVP vs Liverpool - Opinion

Manchester United picked up another massive victory in the Premier League, beating Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield to continue the season revival.

Calls for Ruben Amorim to be axed by Manchester United feel a distant memory after a second win on the bounce in the Premier League, for the first time under the current head coach.

United beat Liverpool 2-1, with goals from Bryan Mbeumo after 62 seconds and then Harry Maguire after 84 minutes.

In the victory, United had several standout performers, with Harry Maguire among the best players on the park. Bryan Mbeumo equalled records with his goal, making himself another standout.

However, there was one unsung star for United, with an under-the-radar performance.

Matheus Cunha has an impressive performance for Manchester United

For United, it will be the goal scorers who get the majority of the plaudits; however, Matheus Cunha had a performance worthy of praise, despite still not securing his first goal.

Cunha was one of United’s best players, as he re-entered the starting line-up against Liverpool at number nine.

The goals and assists are yet to come, but Cunha was a threat almost every time he got the ball, playing excellent passes, and his ball carrying was a danger to the opponents.

Stats Vs. Liverpool
Minutes 90
Shots 2
Passes 24/29
Touches 55
Successful dribbles 2/2
Defensive contributions 9
Clearances 2
Recoveries 6
Duels won 5/13

Cunha didn’t battle with the Liverpool defenders, which would have played into their hands, instead dropping deep and influencing the game.

When the Brazilian is on the ball, he is impossible to get off it, completing the most dribbles in the game. It feels like just a matter of time until he begins showing the levels United were expecting.

Matheus Cunha is just getting started for Manchester United

Cunha is the only attacking signing for United yet to get his first goal; however, that definitely doesn’t mean he is struggling.

Sports journalist Sam Pilger agrees with this, writing on X of his excitement over

“Matheus Cunha has not yet scored for Manchester United, but my word, what a beautiful player, full of composure, skill, flair, courage, and character. An incredible signing who is only getting started.”

Cunha is a joy to watch, and he gets fans off their seats every time he is on the ball.

This is just the beginning, and the Brazilian could be about to explode at United.
