Manchester United have been named as a potential destination for departing Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski.
The Red Devils spent the summer transfer window overhauling their attacking options, and Benjamin Sesko was signed to become the new first-choice striker in Ruben Amorim’s squad.
But Sesko is attracting criticism after a mixed start to the season. There is huge pressure on the 22-year-old as United’s only out-and-out striker, so support could be needed.
With Joshua Zirkzee linked with an exit, a new striker could be targeted in 2026.
According to Manchester Evening News, Lewandowski is on United’s shortlist as his contract at Barcelona ticks down.

Why Man United must reject Robert Lewandowski move
Lewandowski is a footballing legend, and he can consider himself unlucky to have not won a Ballon d’Or during his career. With 617 goals across all clubs, there is no denying his status as one of the world’s best.
But at 37 years old, Lewandowski is in the twilight years of his career.
Who is your dream Manchester United signing in 2026?
In recent years, United have brought in big-name strikers on short-term deals. Edinson Cavani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo are all examples of superstar names who made a late move to Old Trafford.
Despite any success they may have enjoyed while at United, all three are signings that symbolise the short-term vision of the Glazer family. They were signed on big wages to plug holes, not fix long-term issues.
Amorim says he doesn’t want short-term signings at United, and that is precisely what Lewandowski would be.
Signing the Poland international would require a huge wage packet, and it leaves United with the same striker issue a few years down the line.
Ineos must deliver on ‘next Mbappe’ promise
The recruitment at United has improved drastically since the Ineos takeover.
There has been a shift in transfer strategy, with Ineos targeting young players with big potential or Premier League stars in their prime.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave Ruben Amorim his support
The signing of Senne Lammens is changing the narrative around United’s recruitment. Instead of signing a world-renowned name such as Gianluigi Donnarumma or Emiliano Martinez, Ineos backed their recruitment system and struck a bargain deal for a player who now looks like a future superstar.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe said United will target the ‘next Mbappe’ rather than splashing cash on ready-made stars.
Striking a short-term deal for Lewandowski would go against that promise.
