Joshua Zirkzee pulled off something that Casemiro has not been able to do all season in clearest Man Utd sign – opinion

Joshua Zirkzee has shown one clear-cut sign about Casemiro after the Manchester United striker’s return to the starting XI under Ruben Amorim in the 2025-26 season.

Ruben Amorim has rolled the dice with Joshua Zirkzee in the absence of summer signing Benjamin Sesko, who has been ruled out of action due to a knee injury.

Describe that finish from Joshua Zirkzee in one word…⚽️🔥

Zirkzee made his first Manchester United start in the current Premier League campaign last Monday after featuring in the match against 10-man Everton.

However, the 24-year-old Red Devils striker struggled to make a real attacking impact in United’s shock Premier League defeat to Everton at Old Trafford.

Despite not finding the all-important equaliser that United needed in the 1-0 defeat to Everton, Red Devils boss Amorim stuck with Zirkzee for the Crystal Palace match.

Joshua Zirkzee’s Crystal Palace appearance shows one thing that Man Utd midfielder Casemiro hasn’t done this season

Joshua Zirkzee rewarded the faith that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim placed in him for Sunday’s 2-1 comeback win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Netherlands international netted a key equaliser for the Red Devils after beating Dean Henderson at the former United shot-stopper’s near post in the second half.

Despite United trailing 1-0 to Palace in the first half after Jean-Philippe Mateta’s penalty, Zirkzee and Mason Mount were instrumental to the Red Devils’ victory.

Are you surprised by the two Man Utd players who won the most duels?

Player Duels won vs Palace
Joshua Zirkzee 8
Diogo Dalot 8
Casemiro 7
Amad 7
Matthijs de Ligt 6
Noussair Mazraoui 6

Following Zirkzee’s effort in the 54th minute, Mason Mount scored the winner for United against Palace only nine minutes later after being set up by Bruno Fernandes.

Zirkzee’s impact performance at the weekend marked the first time that he has completed full 90-minute back-to-back league matches in the current season.

However, Zirkzee’s ‘feat’ of playing in consecutive matches over the course of 90 minutes is something that Casemiro has still not pulled off in the 2025-26 campaign.

Casemiro’s weakness for Man Utd is becoming all too apparent after out-of-favour Joshua Zirkzee’s recent run

Having struggled for United first-team minutes this season under Amorim, Zirkzee has still been able to complete back-to-back Premier League matches for the club.

Sure, Netherlands striker Zirkzee is only 24 years old compared with the ageing 33-year-old Casemiro, but it places the latter United star back in the spotlight.

Which rating stands out to you?

Casemiro has finished two Premier League matches in their entirety this season after United’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest and the Palace result last month.

However, the Brazil international has not been able to complete the full 90 minutes in the other 10 Premier League matches that he has featured in for United.

Casemiro is out of contract with United in 2026 and it seems all but certain that the former Real Madrid midfielder will make his Old Trafford exit next summer.

The United and Brazil star has been important to Amorim’s midfield plans this season, but his struggles to finish a match in its entirety are ever-present.
