Sir Jim Ratcliffe told by Premier League chief what he should do at Man Utd, he has already started

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been given some key advice from another owner of a Premier League club.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe might only own around 29% of Manchester United’s shares, but the British billionaire has been handed complete sporting control by the Glazer family.

It is quickly approaching the two-year anniversary of the Ineos takeover, and Ratcliffe has made sweeping changes behind the scenes.

A new leadership structure has been established in the boardroom, and Ruben Amorim was identified as the new head coach to lead the long-term project.

But Ratcliffe’s reputation has also taken a hit over the last two years for decisions such as sacking hundreds of staff, raising ticket prices and scrapping staff bonuses.

Bournemouth chief offers advice to Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Ratcliffe is in a unique position at United in that he does not have complete voting power, but is in control of the club’s day-to-day operations.

He is tasked with reviving United from their slump under the Glazers, and Bournemouth chief Tim Bezbatchenko has explained exactly what he would do in Ratcliffe’s position.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave Ruben Amorim his support

Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be.

Speaking on the Business of Sport podcast, Bezbatchenko said: “I would do an MRI of sorts if you’re going there and looking at each department and understanding what’s good about it because there’s a lot of good there.

“The business is good. Business is really good. But clearly, there’s something not right. But it seems like they’re figuring it out.

“I do think starting with people who want to be there, players, and getting people who are bought in fully to the club.

“It doesn’t matter, any organization or any club, the first thing you do is get people who are all in. You’ve got to set your values as a coach or as a CEO, or as an owner.

“This is what we’re about – are you in or out? And however you do that, it seems like they have started to do that. It’s important and I feel like that’s step one.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe deserves credit for Man United hires

For years under the Glazers, United went without a proper footballing structure.

Ed Woodward was more focused on business than football, while Ratcliffe questioned Richard Arnold, describing him as a “rugby man” as opposed to a football leader.

The first priority for Ineos was to rip apart the United boardroom and install a proper structure capable of leading the world’s biggest club.

Omar Berrada was appointed as CEO, and Jason Wilcox is now sporting director. The sacking of Dan Ashworth raised concern, but at least Ratcliffe acted swiftly once realising the setup wasn’t working as intended.

Now, Berrada, Wilcox and Amorim have formed a strong bond behind the scenes and are working closely together to solve United’s issues built up over the past decade.
