'Very tough' - Nani names the best player he ever faced at Manchester United, he terrorised the Red Devils

Nani has named the best player he has ever faced in his career, and Manchester United fans know him all too well.

The Portuguese winger was a staple in the Manchester United side under Sir Alex Ferguson and was a major part of one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.

Nani played 147 times for the Red Devils, and over this period, he came up against some absolute superstars in the Premier League, Champions League, and beyond.

But only one stands out as the best player he’s ever faced.

Nani says Lionel Messi is the best player he’s ever faced

Speaking in a recent interview with The Icon League, the former winger claimed that Barcelona and Argentina legend Lionel Messi was the best player he ever faced.

When asked, he said: “Messi. In his prime, he was very, very tough [to play against].”

Nani was also asked to name the best talent in world football right now, where he opted for Lamine Yamal – another Barcelona world-beater.

The 29-year-old also suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson was the best manager he ever played under, and stated that the Manchester derby with the infamous Michael Owen winner had the best atmosphere he has ever played in.

But yes, despite facing an array of superstars, including his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani picked Messi as the best ever. No surprise, considering what he did to Man United.

Lionel Messi taught Manchester United a lesson in 2009 and 2011

Messi notoriously tore Man United apart on numerous occasions, but his finest displays came in Champions League finals – where he made a lot of United’s world-class stars look mediocre.

The Argentine also only lost once against the Red Devils, scoring four goals in the 11 games he played.

The little magician will probably go down as the best player to ever grace the game, so all his plaudits are well deserved.
