Kobbie Mainoo was once again left without a single minute for Manchester United this week in the 1-1 draw against West Ham.
After the game, a frustrated and angry Ruben Amorim explained how he wanted his Manchester United side to show more control in games. Yet in practice, he was responsible for putting Manuel Ugarte on the pitch.
Amorim tried to defend not using Kobbie Mainoo, but it fell on deaf ears when fans can see how terrible the alternatives are.
THIS was Ruben Amorim and Kobbie Mainoo’s first meeting – November 12, 2024
Journalist Andy Mitten has spoken on the 20-year-old’s situation, admitting Mainoo’s future at United looks bleak because the club are targeting additions in this exact position.
Now, insiders have noticed something about Mainoo.

Kobbie Mainoo is clearly being hurt by his lack of game time at Manchester United
After getting an encouraging cameo against Everton, there was hope that Mainoo would be in line for more minutes during this busier period; however, it hasn’t panned out that way.
Four minutes against Crystal Palace and zero against West Ham should say it all about the plans for Mainoo in January.
This lack of minutes has affected Mainoo, according to the Daily Mail, which claims that club insiders are admitting that he’s being hurt by his treatment.
“This absence is weighing heavy on Mainoo, you can see it around the training ground, and no insiders at the club deny his lack of game time is hurting the academy product.”
Push comes to shove: Would you rather have Kobbie Mainoo stay at Man Utd or Ruben Amorim?
It was reported that Mainoo was growing frustrated at United with his lack of minutes, and it hasn’t improved. If he wants to leave in January, most United supporters will be backing him to get it and play football regularly.
Kobbie Mainoo deserves his January loan exit
While losing Mainoo is not the ideal situation, at this point in Amorim’s reign, United have no choice but to send him on loan.
Keeping the 20-year-old at the club all season does no good for his development, value or mental health – even if Amorim is going to be let go at some point.
Mainoo needs regular football this season in order to rediscover himself, his enjoyment of the game and also form before hopefully returning to a different landscape at the club next summer.
Nobody benefits from forcing Mainoo to sit on the bench the remainder of the campaign, despite Amorim insisting he wants to use him, which we now really doubt.
We still expect Mainoo to be at the club long term, but temporarily, he needs to go elsewhere.
