Diego Simeone has just said something very interesting as the Man Utd job becomes available

Manchester United are prepared to wait until the summer to make a permanent head coach appointment and Diego Simeone’s comments should have Ineos on high alert.

Darren Fletcher’s first game as interim head coach saw Manchester United draw 2-2 with Burnley, and he confirmed after the full-time whistle that he is set to take charge of the side against Brighton in the FA Cup.

Beyond that, though, it seems Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is close to a return and could take charge until the end of the season.

That gives Ineos enough time to scour the market and make a permanent appointment in the summer. Reports suggest United want a head coach with Premier League experience, but if a world-class manager becomes available, they would surely be left with no choice.

Diego Simeone leaves door open to Man United job

The list of managerial candidates for United seems to be constantly growing. Initially, Oliver Glasner was considered favourite, but now the search has been blown wide open.

Diego Simeone has twice reached the Champions League final with Atletico Madrid, and has also won two La Liga titles with the Spanish outfit.

Simeone is widely viewed as one of Europe’s best coaches, and he has made some interesting comments since the United vacancy appeared.

Prove me wrong… Carlo Ancelotti should be Ineos’ top option to become permanent manager this summer!

As per Teledeporte’s TikTok channel, Simeone said: “As coaches, we never close doors, because we understand that football and life can change constantly. So it’s clear that from where I am now, I’m not closing any door.”

Without directly mentioning United, Simeone has made it clear that he is not opposed to the idea of leaving Atleti.

Gary Neville and Roy Keane want Diego Simeone

Following Ruben Amorim’s sacking at United, club legends Gary Neville and Roy Keane have naturally been quizzed on who they think should sit in the hot seat next.

Keane has recommended Simeone to United, saying: “I think he would just create a havoc, but good havoc. I think he’d rock up to that place and say, ‘This is how you do things.’”

Neville argued that the next head coach should have ‘United DNA’, but he is also in favour of Simeone coming to Old Trafford.

He recommended that United should spend £20m on Simeone to bring “the best coach in the world” to take charge of the Red Devils.
