Goalkeeper coach Craig Mawson has put forward the perfect case for why the Red Devils’ four-day training camp has been important outside of the Carrington training complex environment.
Manchester United first-team players found themselves visiting the Republic of Ireland for the start of a strategic training camp after the March international break.
The Red Devils were stationed at Carton House in County Kildare, which is based outside of Dublin, and were put through an intense training period for four days.
Craig Mawson was at the camp with the United players and his eye-opening perspective showed what the Dublin trip really offered away from Carrington.

Carrington vs Carton House: Craig Mawson’s verdict highlights how important the Man Utd ‘social element’ has been
Manchester United’s Dublin training camp concluded on Thursday and the Red Devils returned to Manchester to prepare for their next Premier League match on Monday.
The training camp slotted into a 24-day waiting period between Man Utd’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth in March and their upcoming encounter with Leeds United.
However, the Man Utd training base at Carton House was equally smart for bringing together all of the players in one place after the end of the international break.
Craig Mawson, more importantly, explained that Dublin has been an opportunity to strengthen the social element in the United team away from Carrington as well.
“Usually on a day-to-day [basis] we’re working individually from the group, with the smaller numbers it allows us to build those relationships, but it’s heightened a little bit more when you come away from the training ground because you’re spending a little bit of social time together as well,” he told Manchester United’s official website.
“When you’re out here, it forges the links, builds the relationships, not just between goalkeepers but with the whole team and the staff as well.
“I’m really fortunate, it’s a fantastic working group, lots of different qualities, lots of different characters, but the work ethic on a daily basis, the implementation of the session design and practices, and the willingness to try new things [makes me feel like] I’m very fortunate to be able to work with this group.”
The Dublin training camp for Man Utd has been an effective ‘experiment’ so far and shouldn’t be abandoned
United will not always be able to host a training camp as they did at Carton House every season, with this one being implemented due to the lack of fixtures.
The Red Devils were reduced to a 40-match season after their early exits from the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, as well as lacking any European football in the campaign.
However, it has been proven that United could look to use similar training camps – where permitted – during other points of the calendar season when it comes to breaks.
The unity that this training camp in the Republic of Ireland has brought will be vital for the momentum that Michael Carrick needs for his final seven matches in charge.
In a season of ups and downs at Old Trafford, the Dublin road trip has proved to be one of the better calls that the Red Devils have made.
