Manchester United are coming to the end of a third summer transfer window with Ineos at the helm, and the hard part of the needed open-heart surgery is now over.
When Ineos took over at Manchester United, the squad was a complete mess.
We had a misfiring and toothless front-line, an unbalanced midfield, and an aging and slow defence.
Since then, Ineos have overseen three of the best summer transfer windows in the club’s recent history, forming a squad which is bordering on elite in parts.
This business has handed United a completely built spine of the team, which could last a decade.
Manchester United now have a spine to build for the next decade
United’s squad now is ten times better than the one Ineos inherited, despite all the criticism and flak that they actually wrongly receive.
Crucially, Ineos have now got a young spine within the team which could hopefully be starting for the team in 2030 and maybe even 2035 as well.

- Centre-backs: Leny Yoro & Ayden Heaven
- Midfield: Carlos Baleba & Andrey Santos (Kobbie Mainoo too, but not signed by Ineos)
- Striker: Benjamin Sesko
This is a strong group of incredible young talents who are already first-team level, building a relationship together, and are talented enough to one day win a league title.
Compared to the long term spine when Ineos arrived, it is night and day, with Rasmus Hojlund, no young midfielders, and no young defenders or goalkeepers.
Now Ineos can build long-term around this spine
By signing a spine of young players who have so much potential, the hard part is out of the way for Ineos’ efforts to build a team that can win all the major honours.
Next up is the fun part.
This is because Ineos can begin taking more risks in the market, signing an electric young winger or a Bruno Fernandes successor to compete alongside Shea Lacey and JJ Gabriel.
Next summer, hopefully won’t see United needing to sign three players in one position because the squad now is already built, and future windows will be about supplementing it and adding quality in other positions and depth or upgrading in areas like centre back.
The spine of the team has world-class potential, and United just needs to continue on this path before a league title becomes inevitable. Having this talent for a couple of seasons should make success certain.
United’s journey back to the top starts now if Michael Carrick can help the young spine build relationships and grow together, similar to Arsenal’s development under Mikel Arteta.
The club will be back where it belongs.
