Man Utd must take advantage of market opportunity to sign the next Bradley Barcola for just £35m

Manchester United have just days remaining before the transfer deadline, and multiple positions could use some bolstering including the frontline.

Ineos have spent £152m so far this summer rebuilding the midfield, but if Manchester United are to compete for the Premier League title, more is needed.

United still need a left-back, while a replacement for Joshua Zirkzee is needed as he nears a move to Fiorentina.

But even if these are addressed, United could still benefit from further additions with Patrick Dorgu being an option on the left far from ideal as seen against Hull.

Liverpool are about to spend £120m on Bradley Barcola from PSG, but United could sign the next version of Barcola for much cheaper.

Malick Fofana available for around £35m this summer

While it isn’t a priority for United, left-wing is a position that Michael Carrick would certainly welcome an addition and with Malick Fofana, there is a market opportunity which is simply too good to refuse.

United wanted Fofana last summer before the pursuit of Premier League proven Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo took charge for Ineos.

Fofana currently plays for Lyon who were denied Champions League football by Fenerbahce this week and as a result the Belgian talent is seeking a move away from the French side, according to L’Equipe.

This is amid Roma having reported interest in signing Fofana, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that Lyon will only seek north of €35m (£30m), meaning £35m could get the deal done.

Fofana is an electric winger and exactly what United are missing on the left, with his talent yet to even reach a fraction of how good he could end up being.

Like Barcola, Fofana made his name at Lyon, but by signing him this summer, United get him for the cheap fee and then can watch him grow into a potentially world class winger.

Fofana would be exciting signing for Manchester United

While maybe not a starter ahead of Marcus Rashford, the talent of Fofana would be a brilliant addition to the United squad and he would at the very least be a strong investment.

Similar in ways to Bukayo Saka, Fofana is going to become a top class winger wherever he ends up playing the bulk of his career, so it may as well be for United.

It would be another example of United finding quality and value within a market which has been ridiculous this summer, with Fofana two years younger than Barcola and yet could feasibly end up being just as good.

Fofana stepped backwards last season in game time and performance levels, but the talent is unquestionable and therefore United should be all over his signing at a cut price. With the right development, he will be back to the level that his 2024/25 season suggested he could become.

It is the perfect project signing for United on the left wing.
