Welcome to part II of Man Utd’s player ratings for pre-season, where we cover the midfield zone across six pre-season games.
This is part II of an ongoing series where we rate the overall performance of every player who has played at least two pre-season games this campaign, and is still at the club.
This excludes players like Kobbie Mainoo, for example, who played only against Milan, since their overall rating is their rating from that game. This list will also include attacking midfielders.
You can check out part I of this series here, where defenders and goalkeepers were covered, including the 8/10 surprise breakout star.

Mason Mount – 7
Mason Mount was emerging as the story of pre-season after three games of imperious form, but an injury against PSG ended his pre-season. He is a classy player when fit, but the “when fit” part is too big to gloss over and get excited about. He will frustrate Carrick immensely.
Youri Tielemans – 7.5
Youri Tielemans needed just three games, all against elite opposition, to show that he’s world-class who will instantly make United better. His progressive passing and deceptively good work out of possession will make him a key player for Michael Carrick.
Andrey Santos – 9
Andrey Santos was expected to be a slow starter due to his age, but the Brazilian stepped into the midfield and played like he was born to do this role. He improved with every game, and by the end of the pre-season has probably become undroppable from the first XI. A true superstar.
Bruno Fernandes – 7
Bruno Fernandes followed Tielemans’ minute-schedule, and picked up from where he left off last season. Two missed penalties harm his rating.
Jack Fletcher – 5
Jack Fletcher started the pre-season in the “first XI” of a depleted squad, and ended with getting snubbed and shifted out to the right wing. He needs a loan to iron out the weaknesses in his game. Doesn’t look ready on or off the ball to contribute as a squad player for Man Utd.
Tyler Fletcher – 6
Tyler fared better than his twin brother, keeping his game simple in a deeper role in midfield. Was surprised by the pace of the game a few times, but looks good value for game-closing roles when United are comfortable this season.
Dan Gore – 7
Dan Gore played just the first two pre-season games and looked good, but you got the feeling that the decision to cut ties with him had been made by then. There’s easily a potentially Premier League-level player here if he stays fit and is trusted by his next team.
Toby Collyer – 6.5
Toby Collyer got more minutes than Gore, even featuring against Leeds when most of United’s first-choice players were back. He has improved his game on the ball to go with his tenacity off it. Injuries remain a concern but United should get good money for him this summer.
Shea Lacey – 8.5
Shea Lacey cemented his first-team place with a sparkling pre-season after Carrick profiled him as an attacking midfielder rather than a winger. He raised his level against elite teams and his mentality to keep going is an underrated asset. Fernandes’ successor is a daunting role but he has the potential.
