Hull City have broken a longstanding record against Manchester United that extended beyond Sir Alex Ferguson’s arrival at Old Trafford in the 1980s.
Manchester United kicked off their new season against Hull City and the Red Devils were outclassed on their Premier League visit to the MKM Stadium on Saturday.
Senne Lammens was unable to deny Semi Ajayi for Hull City’s first-half opener against United before Nobel Mendy struck for the Tigers in the 38th minute.
United conceded on both occasions after the build-up from set-pieces — the first being a corner and the second being a free-kick — at the weekend.

Sir Alex Ferguson did not arrive at Old Trafford until 1986 after he left Scottish side Aberdeen and replaced Ron Atkinson as Manchester United manager.
Even before Ferguson took his place in the Old Trafford hot seat, Hull City’s record against United had seen their last top-flight league victory happen in 1974.
United had faced Hull City in the Football League Division Two in 1974 at Boothferry Park and the Red Devils lost the fixture 2-0.
Hull City had never beaten United in the Premier League until today after England’s current top-flight domestic league was formed back in 1992.

Hull City’s last five wins over United, including Saturday’s result at the MKM Stadium, extend all the way back to 1938 during the Football League Division Two’s existence.

Man Utd will now return to Premier League action next Sunday and the Red Devils will face Ipswich Town for their first home match at Old Trafford this season.
