Sir Alex Ferguson’s iconic Man Utd 8-2 win vs Arsenal is only outranked by two other performances 15 years later

Manchester United’s drubbing of Premier League side Arsenal remains one of the standout moments from the tail end of Sir Alex Ferguson’s Old Trafford reign.

It was exactly on this day 15 years ago that the Red Devils inflicted a deep scarring on Arsene Wenger’s men in front of the Manchester United fans at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson shared a legendary rivalry with Arsene Wenger during the Premier League era and the iconic 84-year-old ex-United manager had the last laugh in 2011.

United’s 8-2 win over Arsenal in the 2011-12 Premier League season is the third biggest scoreline margin win that the Red Devils have had since the match was played.

Only Erik ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have put up better scoreline margins than Sir Alex Ferguson’s 8-2 Man Utd win

Wayne Rooney scored a stunning hat-trick in the 2011 Premier League encounter and then-summer signing Ashley Young netted a superb brace for his side.

Danny Welbeck, Nani and Ji-sung Park all netted for the Red Devils as well, while Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott scored for Arsenal at Old Trafford.

With a goalscoring margin of six from the Premier League match, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side put up one of the Red Devils’ best scorelines in modern memory for a time.

The 8-2 win was bettered for the first time by the Red Devils’ 9-0 demolition of Southampton, which remains the best scoreline to date since the 2011 fixture.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in the dugout for the 2020-21 Premier League encounter and the Red Devils capitalised on Alexandre Jankewitz’s early sending off.

Anthony Martial netted a brace and both Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford scored for Manchester United against Southampton at Old Trafford in 2021.

Following on from the Southampton match, Erik ten Hag would put up the Red Devils’ second-best scoreline since United’s 8-2 Premier League win over Arsenal.

The Red Devils thrashed Barnsley in the third round of the League Cup and Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Christian Eriksen all netted braces in the match.
