Real Madrid and France superstar Kylian Mbappe has now revealed why he has a soft spot for Manchester United compared with any other Premier League club.
The 27-year-old French forward has spent his entire playing career at club level in either France or Spain, despite being linked with the Premier League in the past.
Kylian Mbappe has been integral for Real Madrid since he made his stunning move to the Spanish capital in 2024 after his high-profile exit from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 2022 World Cup winner has faced Premier League side Manchester United during his time at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Kylian Mbappe’s admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo extends back to the Real Madrid legend’s time at Man Utd and Old Trafford
Kylian Mbappe has followed in the same footsteps as Cristiano Ronaldo by playing for Real Madrid in his career. Cristiano Ronaldo had a seminal impact at Real Madrid after Manchester United sold the Portugal legend for a world-record fee at that time in 2009.
Signed by Madrid for £80m from Man Utd, Ronaldo’s career went from strength to strength and the 41-year-old Portuguese forward became the La Liga club’s all-time leading scorer. Before his run at Los Blancos, the former Madrid winger had shot to superstardom during his time under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.
Speaking to The Athletic FC, Mbappe admitted that he follows the Premier League and his love for Madrid icon Ronaldo led him to admire Man Utd for some time.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I watch [the Premier League], I watch, of course,” he said.
Mbappe added: The Premier League? Cristiano when he was in Manchester. Manchester [United], yeah. But the Premier League for me is the best league in the world.”
Ronaldo had two separate spells at Old Trafford and his first run under iconic former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson saw him lift the Ballon d’Or award in 2008. The Al-Nassr and Portugal skipper lifted three Premier League titles, the Champions League trophy, the FA Cup and two League Cups with Man Utd.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner left Madrid in 2018 and signed for Serie A side Juventus before he returned to Old Trafford in 2021. Ronaldo’s second spell with Man Utd was brief and came to an end in 2022 after his high-profile falling-out with former Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.
