Argentine press react to Lisandro Martinez display in 7-0 rout of Burkina Faso, perfect for Carrick

Lisandro Martinez played the first half of Argentina’s 7-0 rout of Burkina Faso, and what transpired was perfect for Michael Carrick.

Argentina played their second of the three games on this international break, as Lisandro Martinez got some more minutes under his belt.

Martinez was good against Bolivia in their first game, and the team went one better against Burkina Faso, winning 7-0.

Ahead of their last game against Benin before Man Utd are back in action, here’s how the Argentine press reacted to Martinez’s performance.

How Lisandro Martinez fared against Burkina Faso

Due to some issues off the field, an already lopsided clash between Argentina and Burkina Faso was made even easier for Martinez when the African side had to field a weakened team.

The result was a foregone conclusion at that point, so Man Utd fans were just hoping that Martinez did not pick up any injuries.

He played the first half, came off safely with no injuries, and did not put a foot wrong against a weakened challenge from Burkina Faso.

He completed 68/70 passes with 72 touches in just 45 minutes to hammer home a commanding performance where he was rarely asked to defend resolutely.

With five recoveries of the ball, it was a calm day out for the Man Utd star who would treat this game as a nice friendly warm-up ahead of a tough game against Spurs when United return to action.

Argentine press react to Martinez performance

Martinez has always been a favourite back home in Argentina, so there was no way he was going to cop any criticism after a 7-0.

The outlets praised his calm passing, the ability to come through the game with zero mistakes, and getting minutes under his belt, all of which are perfect for Michael Carrick.

TYC Sports rated him a solid 6/10, saying that he had “no problems”, while La Pagina Millonaria rated him 6/10, writing, “His touches were on the ball when playing out from the back, and, like his partner, he was accurate.”

El Destape Web rated him 7/10, noting that he had no work to do at the back, but making it up for it by being good on the ball.

La Voz simply said that this was another game added to Martinez’s career, as he coasted through the 45 minutes while barely breaking a sweat.

Argentina will finish the international break with a game against Benin and Carrick will hope his defender returns to Old Trafford safe and sound as he tries to put the club’s campaign back on track.
