Sir Alex Ferguson identifies most ‘phenomenal’ moment from entire Man Utd career, it was ‘unforgettable’

Former Manchester United and Aberdeen manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted that there is one ‘fantastic’ memory from his historic 26-year reign at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson enjoyed incredible career-high moments at the Premier League club, including Manchester United’s famous 1998-99 continental treble win.

The 84-year-old United legend lifted a staggering 38 trophies during his time in the Old Trafford dugout, including 13 Premier League titles with the Red Devils.

Ferguson bowed out of Man Utd at the end of the 2012-13 Premier League season after the legendary Scotsman lifted the Red Devils’ last league trophy.

Sir Alex Ferguson says his final Man Utd match is one he ‘will always remember’ for what happened against West Brom

Sir Alex Ferguson oversaw the Red Devils’ 2-1 win against Swansea City in his final match at Old Trafford as Manchester United manager before the visit to the Hawthorns. United played a thrilling back-and-forth Premier League clash with West Brom and Ferguson’s final match as Red Devils boss ended in an eye-catching 5-5 draw.

Former Man Utd striker Romelu Lukaku had an incredible impact for West Brom after he climbed off the bench and scored a stunning hat-trick for the Baggies. Speaking to Macmillan, Ferguson felt that the Premier League result at the Hawthorns was a “phenomenal” moment during his historic reign at Old Trafford.

“It was my last game and I had never been in a game that was 5-5 in my life and when you look at the stats, neither had United,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“So, God was working, you know. If I wanted a game that you will always remember, my last game was five each. I mean, we’ve won games 9-0, 7-0, big scores. That didn’t matter, five each!

“It was fantastic. And at 5-2 I thought we were going to win by 10 and then Rio Ferdinand got a calf injury, wanted to stay on, and Lukaku scored a hat-trick to make it five each. It was phenomenal.”

Shinji Kagawa, Alex Buttner, Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez all scored for the Red Devils, but West Brom put up a hard-fought performance against United under Steve Clarke. Ferguson admitted that West Brom deserved incredible credit for what they brought to the table against his Premier League title-winning side in 2013.

“There was another thing about the game — West Brom were great; they were fantastic in how they operated it for my last game,” he said.

“All of my family were there. It was a day I will never forget. On the programmes, someone bought most of the programmes, one person, and they had to reissue the programmes for the match.

“So, somebody is walking about in this world, probably getting them all signed! Somewhere, you know.”

United have not won the Premier League title since Ferguson, who is widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time, bowed out of Old Trafford.
