Manchester United could get double injury boost for second leg v Barcelona, says Ten Hag

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says the injury situation at the club is beginning to clear up, with some potential returns on the horizon.

Five first team stars were absent from the 21-man squad which has travelled to Barcelona, in addition to two suspensions to Lisandro Martinez and Marcel Sabitzer.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag gave indications that he could have a couple of extra players back for the second leg.

Antony and Scott McTominay could both be involved when United host Barcelona at Old Trafford next week.

Injury update

Ten Hag explained that McTominay and Antony are soon set to return to training.

While he also said Anthony Martial is making progress, Ten Hag did not set any prospective return dates.

He said: “It looks good. I think they are on the way back. They are coming back in the training squad [with] the individual [training work].

“At the end of the week, maybe Scott [McTominay] can begin the training with the team and after the weekend, maybe Antony but we have to see.

“They [Antony, McTominay and Anthony Martial] are making progress, [that is] what we see now.”

United host Leicester City on Sunday at the weekend in the Premier League, before facing Barcelona.

Days later Manchester United are in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle, and it looks like there will be a few extra options available, whether that includes Martial or not.

Next week for the game with Barcelona, Ten Hag could be able to call on Antony, Scott McTominay, Marcel Sabitzer and Lisandro Martinez.

United just need to get to the second leg in a strong position, with a good result at the Nou Camp this week.
