Raphael Varane has hailed Manchester United teammate Casemiro and believes the former Real Madrid midfielder offers ‘balance’ to the team.
Casemiro joined Manchester United last summer for £60 million in what was seen as a panic buy from Erik ten Hag’s side, but the midfielder was superb last season as the Red Devils finished third.
The Brazilian, however, has struggled this time round and looks a few yards off the pace. To that end, in the last two games he has been taken off early.
Raphael Varane, who joined United in the summer of 2021, was full of praise for his former Real Madrid teammate despite a tough season so far.
Varane on Casemiro’s impact
Speaking about the midfielder, who had a short film made with Premier League Productions about his career and upbringing, Varane was keen to heap praise on the 31-year-old.
“He brings a lot of balance on the team, I think he can cut out a lot of counter-attacks we could concede,” Varane told the United website.
“It’s just amazing and with him I have a great connection on the pitch, even without talking, we know exactly where we’re going to move for each other. It’s very helpful for the team to have a player like him”.
Casemiro’s impact on his teammates
It is clear that the Brazilian midfielder has had a big impact on his teammates and another former Real Madrid teammate, Sergio Reguilon, has also been keen to say how big of an impact Casemiro has on the team.
Reguilon said: “I have always said he is a leader on the pitch. He brings so much energy, he is so consistent.”
Despite his poor form, it is unquestionable that the 31-year-old inspires his teammates to improve and win.
Casemiro should be dropped when they take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, but the Brazilian is experienced enough to know he hasn’t been good enough this season at the base of the United midfield.
No matter what, he can still play a crucial role for the Red Devils this season.
