Gary Neville was not happy with one Manchester United star as the former right-back believes that one player was whinging towards the end of the derby.
Manchester United struggled to lay a glove on their biggest rivals and looked slow and methodical in the second half, whilst Manchester City purred.
Bruno Fernandes, United’s captain, struggled throughout and seemed to let his frustration take the better of him towards the end of the Old Trafford rout.
A strong tackle from the Portuguese against Phil Foden drew the ire of Gary Neville and the former right-back, speaking on Sky Sports, believes Fernandes was whinging.
Fernandes’ frustration
The Portuguese midfielder was, once again, struggling and it is perhaps unsurprising as the former Sporting Lisbon man was shunted out to the right-hand side.
“What we’ve seen with Fernandes in these last 10 minutes is he has a few moans and groans and has a whinge,” Neville said when the Portuguese steamed into a tackle on Phil Foden.
“He lets himself down with these moments, Bruno.”
The Portuguese midfielder was losing his head as the second half went on and he has struggled in the big games recently.
Neville, however, was perhaps a tad harsh on the midfielder as his frustrations were natural. United fans are just tired of seeing it.
Fernandes’ big game struggles
The midfielder has, recently, struggled in the bigger games and hasn’t looked perhaps as fluent as he did last season, his performances are echoing the team’s.
As a captain of the club, you have to lead by example, and, at times, Fernandes treads the line of what is acceptable and what isn’t. For a brief period in the final 10 minutes, he seemed to be out to injure his opponents.
Fernandes has been a revolutionary signing for the Red Devils, possibly the best made in a decade, but his moments of petulance always seem to let him down.
