0 times dribbled past: Man Utd man responds to recent Paul Scholes criticism with seriously solid display vs Everton

Manchester United beat Everton 3-0 in the Premier League in what was a fantastic victory.

Erik ten Hag will be delighted by the performance he saw at Goodison Park from his Manchester United side.

An insane Alejandro Garnacho overhead kick, a Marcus Rashford penalty and an ice-cold Anthony Martial finish were enough to give the Red Devils all three points against the Toffees.

But there was one player on the pitch who may not necessarily get the plaudits he deserves. Considering the recent criticism he’s faced – he was excellent against Sean Dyche’s side.

Diogo Dalot solid vs Everton

That man? Diogo Dalot. The Portuguese fullback was excellent against Everton.

Dalot provided the assist for what was certainly the moment of the game. He floated one into the box just after two minutes which was met by Garnacho who fired home an acrobatic effort which will surely go down as one of the Premier League‘s greatest ever goals.

But his overall game was also pretty solid. Take a look at his stats:

Diogo Dalot makes up for recent criticised performances

Dalot is a player that’s come under major scrutiny as of late. Manchester United legend Paul Scholes recently was very critical of the full-back:

Scholes said: “I’m not sure if the right-back’s good enough, Dalot, when it comes to the big games. I’m not sure his character is big enough to handle the big games.

“Wan-Bissaka can do it defensively not a problem. Going forward he has improved don’t get me wrong, I just think the balance of the team has been a little bit wrong.

“To Dalot’s credit he has managed to stay fit all season, racking up the fourth most minutes of any player. But he has been found lacking lately, culpable for goals conceded in defeats against Galatasaray, Newcastle and Copenhagen.

“Is this because he is not good enough, or as Scholes says, lacks the character to handle big games, or is it symptomatic of burnout, a player lacking physical and mental rest, often playing two positions? The answer may be a mix of the two.”

Everton was a big game for the Red Devils. A moody Goodison Park was always going to be a tough ground to head to after the international break – but United really did show up.

Dalot proved he can be a vital player and rewarded Erik ten Hag for starting him ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Let’s hope these solid performances can continue going forward.
