Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has hailed the contribution of the team’s young players after the win over Everton.
Alejandro Garnacho led the way with a spectacular overhead kick, while Kobbie Mainoo was named as a starter in midfield.
Both players made a huge contribution to the 3-0 win, while youngsters Facundo Pellistri and Hannibal Mejbri came off the bench in the second half to help United close out the victory.
Bruno Fernandes provided the assist for United’s third goal, and speaking to MUTV after the final whistle, he had high praise for the youngsters.
Bruno Fernandes hails young quartet
Bruno Fernandes says he was thrilled to see the young players take their chances, and lauded Kobbie Mainoo’s contribution.
He said: “We have a pretty young squad still. I think Kobbie did amazing today. Garna obviously with an amazing goal.
“Not less important, Pellistri and Hannibal, they lifted the team, the energy at the end of game was unbelievable.”
Manchester United need energy right now
Manchester United’s squad is reeling from injuries, and it is vital that young players are able to contribute, and lay a marker down for the long-term future.
Garnacho and Mainoo in particular are showing they can be the ‘now’, and not just the future. Garnacho was the matchwinner, while there could have been no arguments if the young midfielder picked up the man of the match award instead. Manchester United fans were very impressed.
This was just one game, but everything we have seen from Kobbie Mainoo through the academy, in pre-season, and in his five first team matches to date, suggests he is a very special player – or ‘amazing’ as Bruno Fernandes would say.
