Maguire 8, Antony 2: Ranking every Man Utd first-team player out of 10 so far this season - opinion

Here is how we’d rank Manchester United’s first-team players out of ten for how they’ve begun the season…

Andre Onana

After a rocky start, the Cameroonian is finally finding his feet at Old Trafford. Since the Champions League fixture against Copenhagen where he made a phenomenal penalty save, he’s been very solid.

Ranking: 6/10

Altay Bayindir

Hasn’t featured as of yet, meaning we can’t rank this one.

Ranking: N/A

Tom Heaton

Again – hasn’t featured. Can’t rank.

Ranking: N/A

Diogo Dalot

One of Manchester United‘s worst performers this season. Diogo Dalot doesn’t look competent in United’s back line. Has had a few decent games – but overwhelmingly unreliable.

Ranking: 3/10

Aaron-Wan Bissaka

Has been injured for some time, but has played well when he’s featured. He’s a big bonus when he’s in the squad.

Ranking: 5/10

Victor Lindelof

Has been surprisingly solid and has proven useful in terms of versatility, slotting in at left-back on a few occasions. He deserves credit this season.

Harry Maguire

Arguably Manchester United’s stand-out performer this season – which is a chaotic statement given Harry Maguire‘s career at Old Trafford. Immense.

Ranking: 8/10

Lisandro Martinez

Played in the opening few fixtures and wasn’t his usual self – then got injured. Not a good season for the butcher.

Ranking: 3/10

Raphael Varane

Has lost more than a yard or two of pace. Fallen out of favour, ultimately being dropped for Jonny Evans. Time may be ticking at United for Raphael Varane.

Ranking: 3/10

Jonny Evans

Has been fantastic all things considered. A very calm figure in the back line and always professional. Jonny Evans was a really good pickup from Erik ten Hag.

Ranking: 7/10

Tyrell Malacia

Has been injured, so cannot rank.

Ranking: N/A

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw has also been out through injury. In the two matches he played, he wasn’t anything special but certainly did a job.

Ranking: 3/10

Sergio Reguilon

Has been fine when called upon. Also was injured for a brief period. Showed promise in the most recent fixture vs Luton.

Casemiro

Very poor by his standards. Casemiro just looks off it this season and is suffering from the same fate as Varane with a severe loss of pace. He’s also now injured for a significant amount of time.

Ranking: 4/10

Scott McTominay

A resurgence for Scott McTominay this year at United. The Scotsman has established himself as a key figure in the starting XI. Fair play as he looked destined to be leaving the club in the summer.

Ranking: 7/10

Christian Eriksen

Still has undeniable quality, but struggles to see out a full game. Is still very capable of moments of individual brilliance. Has been hit-and-miss so far.

Ranking: 6/10

Mason Mount

Hasnt exactly made the impact he would’ve been dreaming of after his move from Chelsea. Considering he was the summer priority – we have not seen anything to shout about from Mason Mount yet.

Ranking: 5/10

Sofyan Amrabat

Came into the frame strong, but hasn’t exactly wowed the Old Trafford faithful yet. Looks like a decent squad player, but we feel we’re still yet to see the full capabilities of the Moroccan.

Ranking: 5/10

Donny van de Beek

Absent… where is he? Looks destined to be released in the summer.

Ranking: N/A

Kobbie Mainoo

Sadly was injured in pre-season. Has been featuring for academy sides recently, so we’ll be able to judge Kobbie Mainoo very soon.

Ranking: N/A

Bruno Fernandes

Undisputedly Manchester United’s hardest worker. Always at the heart of everything good going forward. The captain is no doubt one of our best performers week in and week out.

Ranking: 7/10

Hannibal Mejbri

Hannibal Mejbri is a lively player when he’s on the pitch. He has had a few excellent games but has also had a few more to forget. He needs to find a level of consistency.

Ranking: 6/10

Amad Diallo

Will soon be returning from injury.

Ranking: N/A

Antony

Seriously woeful. The Brazilian doesn’t seem to offer anything to the Manchester United attack this season. The only way is up hopefully for the 23-year-old.

Ranking: 2/10

Facundo Pellistri

Similar to Hannibal, needs to fund a level of consistency. Has definitely shown promise, but probably needs a consistent run of games to show what he’s made of.

Ranking: 5/10

Anthony Martial

Massively unreliable and hideous when called upon. Anthony Martial‘s time is well and truly up at Old Trafford.

Ranking: 1/10

Marcus Rashford

Not been his season so far. The winger looks stiff and uninterested. Needs a couple of goals to boost his confidence.

Ranking: 3/10

Jadon Sancho

The less said about this the better.

Ranking: 1/10

Rasmus Hojlund

A bright spark in United’s front line. The young man shows tenacity, ambition and desire. Just needs that first Premier League goal to really get him going.

Ranking: 7/10

Alejandro Garnacho

Not quite gotten there yet, but always a dangerous asset when in possession. He just needs to get a few goals and assists under his belt.

Ranking: 6/10
