Former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst could be on the move again in 2024 amid claims he wants to rejoin Besiktas.
United have had quite the group of short-term striker signings in recent times.
Odion Ighalo springs to mind, whilst Edinson Cavani chipped in with some big goals in his two years at the club.
Then we come to Wout Weghorst, who joined on loan from Burnley in January.
Erik ten Hag wanted to bring his fellow Dutchman to Old Trafford but decided not to take the move any further in the summer.
Wout Weghorst chipping in for Hoffenheim
The giant striker worked hard and pressed well but goals just weren’t his strong suit in a United shirt.
Weghorst managed just two goals in 31 appearances for United, so Ten Hag felt he had seen enough.
In came Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta to replace him, with Weghorst landing a summer move of his own.
The 31-year-old completed a return to the Bundesliga, joining Hoffenheim on a season-long loan.
Weghorst has has been starting regularly for Hoffenheim and finding the net, scoring three times in just two weeks recently.
Weghorst also found the net for the Netherlands on Saturday night, bagging the winner in a 1-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland.
Besiktas return now in mind for Weghorst
Despite seemingly faring well for Hoffenheim, Weghorst could be on the move again in 2024.
That is because Turkish newspaper Milliyet report that Weghorst wants a return to Besiktas.
Weghorst hit nine goals in 18 games for Besiktas in the first half of last season before joining United.
Now seemingly fancying a return to Turkey, Weghorst has allegedly made himself available to Besiktas through his representatives.
Besiktas are yet to bite; they have a presidential election coming up and won’t initiate a transfer move until that is out of the way.
It is though claimed that Weghorst could be a replacement for Vincent Aboubakar, who is wanted in Saudi Arabia.
This would be Weghorst’s fifth move in just two years, seemingly struggling to find a settled home after leaving Wolfsburg in 2022.
