Ex-Manchester United star is going toe-to-toe with Jude Bellingham this season in La Liga

Daley Blind is enjoying arguably his finest bit of football since leaving Manchester United.

The Dutch centre-half has embarked on a new footballing venture this season, deciding to take on La Liga as he moved to Girona.

Daley Blind, 33, arrived on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, looking to bring a wealth of experience to the backline of Girona’s side.

He’s brought a whole lot more. Girona currently sit level on points with Real Madrid after 15 games in the Spanish top flight.

Daley Blind’s Girona side are going toe-to-toe with Real Madrid

Girona are remarkably level on points at the top of the La Liga and show no signs of stopping.

They finished 10th in the table last season, securing 49 points across the 38-game campaign. Now after just 15 games, they sit just 11 points behind last season’s tally on 38, but more importantly dead level with Real Madrid.

Girona record 23/24

Madrid sits on the same total, only ahead of Blind’s side on goal difference. They were also the only side to give Girona a taste of defeat this season.

Real Madrid ran out 3-0 winners against Blind’s side with former Manchester United target Jude Bellingham being the star of the show.

The English midfielder got a goal, an assist and the Man of the Match award – sending Real Madrid top in the process.

But that didn’t deter them going forward, since the loss Girona has gone eight games unbeaten in all competitions – with their most recent victory a 2-1 win against Valencia on the weekend.

Daley Blind has been extraordinary

Blind has more than played his part in their successes. The Dutch defender has featured in all 15 league games. During this time, he’s only conceded 17 goals and has an above-average match rating of 6.99/10.

For a free transfer, he was an inspired pickup and it appears he is seriously enjoying his time in Spain. One of his toughest tests will come next week, as they face Barcelona. Can Girona pull off a shock result?
