Exciting Man Utd duo who shone v Galatasaray have made £375k-a-week star's return more difficult - opinion

Marcus Rashford’s place in Manchester United’s starting line-up could be at risk as both Alejandro Garnacho and Antony impress.

This season has seen Marcus Rashford look a shadow of the player who scored 30 goals last season for Manchester United. He cuts a moody and frustrated player when he plays, and the past month or so has seen him displaced by Alejandro Garnacho.

The Argentine youngster took the left wing, which forced Rashford to the right where he is nowhere near as impactful. But even this position looks under threat as Antony had a brilliant game against Galatasaray.

This has created quite the predicament for Erik ten Hag given Rashford earns a whopping £375k-a-week, yet has no clear position in the starting line-up.

Garnacho is undroppable on the left

Rashford has lost his place on the left side. With just two goals all season, despite starting every game until fairly recently. Garnacho meanwhile has started far fewer and has three already including a Puskas contender against Everton.

But it is the fact that Garnacho has been given a chance over the past five or six games. In this time he’s scored twice and has managed a SofaScore rating of over 7 on four occasions with his latest drawing a ‘real deal’ label from Rio Ferdinand.

He has grown in confidence, to the point he’s taking players on again and doing what got fans so excited in the first place. While rotation will come into effect which possibly will see Rashford on the left, for now, Garnacho is the first choice through merit.

But the concern for Rashford is that Antony has finally shown some sort of decent display which could see the right also become a doubt.

Antony offers more on the right than Marcus Rashford

Rashford has never been a right-winger, but due to Garnacho thriving, he has been moved out there with little success.

But against Galatasaray Antony returned to the line-up and looked great. He was taking players on, being direct and linking up well with those around him.

The best example was seen in the build-up to Scott McTominay‘s goal when Antony drove inside, creating space for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to assist the goal.

This happened numerous other times but unfortunately, the end product from Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot was poor.
