Manchester United will head to St James’ Park on Saturday night for a late kick-off against Newcastle, here’s our predicted line-up.
After a really disappointing midweek for Manchester United in Istanbul, Erik ten Hag‘s hopes will be high that they can bounce back against a tough opponent.
Newcastle United will await the Red Devils on what will be a cold night up north, however the injury crisis Eddie Howe’s side is suffering should give confidence to United.
The game will pit last seasons third against fourth and also a replay of last seasons Carabao Cup final which saw Ten Hag beat the Magpies 2-0 at Wembley.
Avoiding defeat here would be huge for United in keeping confidence and therefore we’ve predicted a strong line-up to face Newcastle.
Manchester United predicted XI to face Newcastle United
After the disappointing collapse on Wednesday night Ten Hag will face several selection headaches which could potentially be defining.
The first of which is whether to start Andre Onana after his shambolic display, we think he does. Ten Hag and Onana know each other so well so it’s unlikely the Cameroonian goalkeeper will be thrown under the bus and dropped. It would shatter his confidence and instead we should be hoping he continues his great Premier League form.
At right back, Diogo Dalot didn’t do enough to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the team given the number 29 got a really well worked assist midweek.
Luke Shaw will continue at left-back where he has been vital and improved United’s attacking ten-fold down the left side.
At centre-half, Raphael Varane doesn’t seem to be able to get a game right now, which gives the impression Ten Hag will stick with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
Moving into midfield the excellent Kobbie Mainoo who was impressive again when facing Galatasaray should start and while Sofyan Amrabat would be the smarter choice for this game next to him. Ten Hag will probably select Scott McTominay.
There is no place for Marcus Rashford on the wings, with Alejandro Garnacho establishing himself as the starter on the left. On the right, Antony’s midweek display warrants a start at the weekend.
Bruno Fernandes starts in the number 10 position after a really good game against Galatasaray in which he scored and assisted.
Up front, Rasmus Hojlund is back in Premier League action with Anthony Martial unlucky to be missing out.
Manchester United predicted XI: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw; Mainoo, McTominay; Antony, Bruno, Garnacho; Hojlund.
