Ineos are set to make one key change at Manchester United involving player contracts, according to reports.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos are set to complete their 25 per cent takeover of Manchester United soon, whenever that may be, and the Red Devils will be making key changes.
In the boardroom, Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United is looking ‘increasingly likely’ to join the Old Trafford revolution as a sporting director replacing John Murtough, despite being the technical director at St James’ Park.
There is a chance Paul Mitchell comes in as well as the 52-year-old Englishman and the pair could form a team of sorts. It’s not just the boardroom that could be getting a makeover, however.
Ineos’ big change
Well, according to Sky Sports News, the petrochemical billionaire is working on a new approach for the Red Devils when it comes to the awarding of contracts to key players.
The concern, previously, has always been the numbers handed out to first-team players with Casemiro, who Ratcliffe probably wouldn’t have signed off on, being one key example.
United would reportedly be more willing to be more ruthless in terms of decision-making and more open to the possibility of terminating contracts if it’s for the greater good, and discussions to this effect have taken place over the Jadon Sancho situation.
The English winger remains exiled by Erik ten Hag and there is no sign a return to the first team is imminent unless he apologises to the Dutchman over his social media post.
Clubs have been linked with the English winger but if nobody comes forward who would be willing to offer a transfer fee for the 23-year-old, United would be open to releasing him from his contract.
United following Arsenal’s lead
United want to be more “culture-focused” in their decision-making and have noted Arsenal as an example where cutting ties with players instead of trying to hold out for a fee can help reshape a squad and create an environment of excellence.
One example of this working at the Emirates Stadium was Mikel Arteta’s handling of the Pierre Emerick Aubameyang situation with the Gabon striker only signing a new deal just 15 months before him leaving Arsenal.
United look to be following suit and you wonder if the former Borussia Dortmund winger will be the first example of this coming into effect once the 25 per cent Ineos takeover is ratified.
