'Very likely' new Man Utd DOF's 10 best signings will get fans seriously excited, includes now £115m rated star

Newcastle chief Dan Ashworth is now looking like the candidate to replace John Murtough as Manchester United’s director of football.

It was reported this week that the 52-year-old is ‘very likely‘ to be making his way to Old Trafford, with him firmly in Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s and INEOS’ plans for the club moving forward.

It’s an incredibly exciting time for Manchester United fans. Dan Ashworth‘s footballing CV is impeccable.

This includes some of the signings he’s made. These ten at Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion will get fans seriously excited.

Leandro Trossard signed for Brighton under Ashworth in 2019 from Genk for a fee believed to be around £15m.

The dual-footed Belgian is a goal-scoring winger who has been dazzling defences ever since his arrival.

He has since moved to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side, where he is trying to help the Gunners to a Premier League title.

Tariq Lamptey

Brighton signed defender Tariq Lamptey from Chelsea on a deal until June 2023 back in 2020.

The then 19-year-old was massively unknown in the Premier League but was a product of Chelsea’s academy – notorious for producing world-beating talent.

He had a few excellent seasons, which led to interest from Manchester United, but unfortunately suffered a bad injury and hasn’t been the same since.

Moises Caicedo

Arguably the best bit of business in Premier League history has to be Moises Caicedo.

The Ecuadorian was hot on the radar of Manchester United back in 2021, but it was the Seagulls who secured his signature for a measly £4.5m.

Everyone knows what happened next. He moved to Chelsea in the summer for a Premier League record fee of £115m. Ludicrous.

Kaoru Mitoma

Another fine bit of business for Brighton was Kaoru Mitoma.

The tricky Japanese winger is lighting up the league this season, establishing himself as one of the most dangerous players in the entirety of the English top flight.

Signed from Kawasaki Frontale for just £2.5m in 2021, he’s now worth a hell of a lot more.

Marc Cucurella

Marc Cucurella very nearly ended up at Manchester United this season.

The Red Devils opted for Sergio Reguilon instead, but Dan Ashworth made sure to bring on board the Spnaird to the South Coast in 2021.

Cucurella joined Brighton from Getafe but was sold the very next season to Chelsea for a whopping £60m.

Alexander Isak

Manchester United could do with a player like Alexander Isak up top.

We’re onto the Newcastle signings now, with Isak being an inspired pickup from Dan Ashworth. The tricky Swedish forward cost a pretty penny, but when fit is one of the best strikers in Europe.

He cost the Magpies £63m, which was a club-record fee. They still have the best of him to see.

Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon has been one of the best players in the league this season.

Many laughed when Newcastle paid a premium to Everton back in January 2023. The deal was an initial £40m plus add-ons that could see the deal rise to £45m.

However, they’re the ones laughing now. He’s a vital part of their setup, and now looks a bit of a bargain.

Sven Botman

Sven Botman is an absolute rock at the back.

He completed his move to Newcastle United from Lille after a deal to bring the highly-rated defender to St. James’ Park cost around £32m.

Considering his age at the time, this was simply ludicrous. Another bit of wizardry from Ashworth.

Nick Pope

Nick Pope has proven himself to be a seriously solid keeper.

The towering Englishman was brought in with Newcastle desperate for a shot-stopper, and he fits the role perfectly.

His performances were a huge catalyst to them securing the Champions League spot.

Tino Livramento

Finally, another Manchester United linked player in the past, Tino Livramento looks the real deal.

He’s come on leaps and bounds this season and looks like a player that is worth the £40 million they paid Souhamtpon for.

He rounds off a mega-exciting list of Dan Ashworth signings, the likes of which could be potentially heading to Old Trafford in the next few seasons.
