£64m Man Utd star is only Red Devils player to make Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week

Former Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle star Alan Shearer has revealed that Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund made his Premier League Team of the Week.

Hojlund has been under immense pressure this season over his goalscoring output, with the United man scoring only twice in 16 Premier League appearances.

The 20-year-old Denmark striker did impress in the Champions League this season after Hojlund scored five times in six appearances since his move last summer.

However, Hojlund went 14 Premier League matches without finding the back of the net before he broke his drought in United’s 3-2 comeback win against Aston Villa.

United splashed out a hefty £64m to sign the Denmark international from Serie A side Atalanta, with Hojlund receiving little time to adapt to the new league.

Despite his lack of goalscoring output in the Premier League, United manager Erik ten Hag has kept faith in Hojlund and backed him to succeed.

Shearer picks Hojlund in his Team of the Week

The Premier League’s official account on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, revealed who Shearer picked in his Team of the Week for ‘Matchweek 21.’

Hojlund made his mark in United’s last Premier League outing, with the Red Devils striker opening the scoring against Tottenham at Old Trafford in the 2-2 draw.

The former Atalanta star also picked up his first Premier League assist after he set up Marcus Rashford for United’s second against Spurs before half-time.

Hojlund was the only United player to make Shearer’s Team of the Week XI, which featured the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Ivan Toney and Diogo Jota.

Hojlund tipped for success at United

Despite a bumpy start to life at Old Trafford, Hojlund has been backed to be a success at United and “could define an era” at the Premier League club.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website earlier this month, Casemiro said: “When he entered the fray he contributed a lot, changing our dynamic, so I tried to express to him just how I was feeling.

“He’s definitely playing better in every game and he’s working really hard. Rasmus is a dedicated lad and he’s keen to kick on.

“He’ll be a great player for this club and, with the ambitions he has, he could define an era at Manchester United.”
