'Dream come true': Manchester United officially miss out on signing 'very quick' defender for £30m

Manchester United will not be signing Sacha Boey after the Galatasaray defender completed a move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

United have been linked with a number of right backs in recent times amid confusion over Erik ten Hag’s options.

Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been battling in that area for many years now and yet neither have really proven themselves to be the long-term answer.

Neither are explicitly up for sale either though, leaving United fans a little baffled about the position.

Brentford ace Aaron Hickey has been linked with a move to United in recent days as one rumoured right back target has completed a move elsewhere…

Manchester United miss out on Sacha Boey

Reports from Fotospor back in October that United had been scouting Galatasaray right back Sacha Boey ahead of a potential move to sign the Frenchman.

Boey impressed against United in the Champions League, turning in two strong performances.

Turkish Football reported in April that United had been eyeing up a move for Boey but no summer move materialised.

United may well have been holding out hope of signing Boey at the end of the season but that prospect has now disappeared.

Bayern Munich have now confirmed the signing of Boey, paying a fee which could reach €35million (£30million).

United simply aren’t in a position to make such a transfer this month and that has allowed Bayern to swoop in and secure Boey’s signature.

Boey comments on Bayern move

This one stings a little as Boey is the kind of right back we would like to see in a United shirt and he still has so much potential at just 23.

It’s also quite ironic that Boey is leaving Galatasaray for another of their Champions League group stage rivals with Bayern seemingly as impressed as United were.

Boey seems to be delighted with his move, telling Bayern’s official website that joining the German giants is a ‘dream come true’ and he just can’t wait to get going at the Allianz Arena.

“This is a dream come true for me. It’s an honour for me to get to play for such a big club like Bayern. I’m really looking forward to my new team and getting to play with all these great players in the future. As a player, I’m a defender who likes to attack, just as happy being involved up front as in defence,” said Boey.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund is happy too, hailing Boey as a ‘very quick and physically strong’ defender who loves a tackle and will increase Bayern’s quality.

“Sacha Boey is a very quick and physically strong right-back, who covers a lot of ground in every game and doesn’t shy away from any tackles. He was a fan favourite at Galatasaray, has developed very well down the years, arrives with Champions League experience and won the league title with Galatasaray last season. He will increase our quality in defence,” said Freund.

United will have to look elsewhere for a new right back in the summer but may well keep tabs on Boey, just in case he comes available again down the line.
