Hannibal Mejbri loan move away from Manchester United on hold for key reason

Hannibal Mejbri’s loan move away from Manchester United is on hold, according to reports.

Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been linked with a move away from the club with three different sides battling it out for the Tunisian’s signature including La Liga giants Sevilla.

After featuring earlier on in the season and impressing, the 20-year-old has been a tad unfortunate to not have featured more for the Red Devils during a tough season.

Despite the club’s midfield injury problems, Hannibal just cannot break into the first team as a regular starter at this moment in time and it is Kobbie Mainoo who is the academy player that has made the biggest impact on the Red Devils’ first team so far.

Hannibal loan on hold

According to a report from the Daily Mail, the midfielder’s loan move away from Old Trafford has been halted temporarily following Donny van de Beek’s move away from the club on a loan deal.

This is because Erik ten Hag wants to see his midfield depth improve with injured players returning first, before letting another midfield option leave.

Van de Beek completed his move to Eintracht Frankfurt on an initial loan with there being an option in that loan to make it permanent at around £11 million. And even though he has not played since September, the Dutchman was still making the matchday squads, a sign of how stretched United were.

So Erik ten Hag is keen on ensuring that he has enough squad depth in the team before he sanctions the loan move of the Tunisian midfielder.

Casemiro and Mason Mount are due back from long injury layoffs this month but any loan moves for Mejbri are on hold for now despite the Tunisia midfielder pulling out of AFCON to sort out his future.

Dan Gore has been linked with a loan move away from the club but the report states that any links with Borussia Dortmund are wide of the mark.

Hannibal has to go on loan

Despite the 20-year-old’s move away from the club being delayed, getting the midfielder out on loan for more first-team football is vital for his development.

Getting the Tunisian a loan move to a top European side could aid his development massively, look at Amad Diallo after his loan move to Sunderland.

With no European football in the second half of the season, there is limited time to rotate the team, meaning Erik ten Hag could select his preferred XI each week.

The Red Devils must allow the former AS Monaco midfielder to get out of Old Trafford and get first-team opportunities.
