Who is the £8m Argentine midfielder Manchester United are now battling Real Madrid to sign

Manchester United are battling with Real Madrid over talented holding midfielder Federico Redondo, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag has promoted Kobbie Mainoo from the academy set up at Manchester United and the 18-year-old midfielder has been a revelation for the Red Devils.

The other midfielders in the Dutchman’s ranks, however, have struggled hugely with Casemiro being out injured for two months and Sofyan Amrabat struggling to justify his loan deal being made permanent in the summer.

A new holding midfielder may well be targeted by the Dutchman as Casemiro’s future at the club is certainly unclear following a poor campaign for the Red Devils.

Redondo linked

According to a report from TeamTalk, Federico Redondo is attracting interest from the Red Devils but United would face competition from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool as well as Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid.

Playing for Argentinos Juniors, the Argentine midfielder is attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs and a move away from the South American club could well be likely in the summer.

It’s now clear he could be available for just £8 million in this month’s window which has put every club watching him on high alert.

These are the types of deals that Manchester United never really do but under the new Ineos regime, this has to be the direction the club goes in.

After they missed out on Moises Caicedo, who eventually joined Brighton & Hove Albion from Independiente De Valle, the club cannot afford to make the same mistake again.

Julian Alvarez was another young, promising player who the Red Devils missed out on due to the club not listening to Ralf Rangnick’s suggestions on transfers.

United have to take advantage of South American market

Too many times United have missed out on some superb South American talent and this simply cannot happen again. Redondo looks to be a breathtaking talent with his range of passing catching the eye of these teams, according to the report.

Redondo, who is available for peanuts compared to what Chelsea paid for another Argentine in Enzo Fernandez, could be a superb signing for the Red Devils.

If United sell players in January, a move for the Argentine could happen in the winter, although that does seem unlikely at this stage.
