Report: Manchester United now keen on Champions League striker in potential Onana reunion

Manchester United are now considering a move to sign Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting during the January transfer window.

United coughed up big money to sign striker Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in August but the Dane clearly needs help up top.

There is real potential in Hojlund but he just isn’t ready to carry the load of the United attack on his own.

Anthony Martial is pretty much a non-factor at this point and will surely leave the club once and for all in 2024.

United may look to land an experienced striker in the January window, but Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is not a name fans would have expected to see on the radar…

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting linked with Manchester United move

The Athletic now claim that Bayern Munich striker Choupo-Moting is one striker who could arrive in 2024.

It’s suggested that United could look to add an experienced striker on a short-term deal, similar to deals for Wout Weghorst and Odion Ighalo in previous January windows.

Choupo-Moting is one name who fits the bill having started just three Bundesliga games for Bayern this season.

The former Stoke City flop has managed two goals in 14 league games this season but is stuck behind Harry Kane in the pecking order.

Choupo-Moting turns 35 in March so this one may not be particularly inspiring for United fans, but he could pass on some top-level experience and knowledge to Hojlund having featured for Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern.

A 6ft 3in forward, Choupo-Moting actually has a solid record for Bayern with 38 goals in 107 appearances and that could yet earn him a move to United.

Choupo-Moting could reunite with Andre Onana

A move to Old Trafford would see Choupo-Moting join forces again having featured for the Cameroon national team together.

The pair have turned out 21 times together for Cameroon, losing just five times whilst winning 10 times and drawing the other seven.

Onana has been called up to the Africa Cup of Nations this month but Choupo-Moting has been surprisingly omitted from the Cameroon squad.

Onana and Choupo-Moting won’t be going for glory together with Cameroon but they could soon join forces to try and take United forward in 2024 and beyond.

The pair also appear to be good friends off the pitch and posed for a photo together after facing off last season.

Choupo-Moting may well love the idea of teaming up with Onana, and with his Bayern contract expiring this summer, United could pounce with a cut-price move.
